Ask Bowie

Most obscure music you listen(ed) to?

I could go on and on and on about how much obscure music I love.

An easy answer would be The Residents, but as obscure as they are, they are pretty popular. If obscure music had any sort of genre I know they'd be the big stars in the business.

Some favourites of mine include:

They're really amazing, and "The Talk of Creatures" is definitely one of my favourite songs of all time, despite its length.

A man I've had the pleasure of speaking to and like to keep in contact with on a regular basis is Brian Tessler. Here's some of his stuff:

He's really brilliant and he's informed me just a few days ago that he's working on a new album right now. So, that's really exciting. Artists like him, combined with their visual talents and writing abilities, truly inspire me. I could go on and on about Ratboy Genius, but his music isn't as obscure as his visuals. In fact, his are mostly classical.

And here are some songs I absolutely have to throw in simply because of how much I love them and believe in their artistic relevance:

I heard the name Residents so apparently I don't live too much under a rock lmao but I see where you are coming from there...

When did you first hear David Bowie?

It was in Shrek 2. David and Butterfly Bouncer recorded a new version of "Changes" for the film, and I believe that was the first time I ever heard a Bowie song.

I didn't get into him until many years later, when my father recommended a song to me called "Space Oddity". Funnily enough, I hated it, and got bored of it very quickly. But then I listened to "Life on Mars?" and fell in love. Then I gave "Space Oddity" another try and I loved that just as much.

And then he released his new (at the time) album, The Next Day, and I've loved him ever since. I'm very grateful I was able to experience him for the short time that I did before he passed away.
