I had four encounters with a tarantula so far. Today I ran into one when just got from main street. I was startled!
Luckily I did not have the net equipped, so it left me alone. But before I could get my net out, to try and catch it, it despawned.

Any tips on how to catch the tarantula without it despawning or getting bitten?

I honestly don't remember how I caught mine tbh it was last summer. I think I just so happened to have my net equipped and I saw it and just swung. I saw several others after that but they all just jumped into the river. I'm less than helpful I know, but I guess just don't hesitate and run up to it and swing your net. Good luck!

The way I caught mine a year ago was by running from them, then flick my circle pad the other way for a hard stop and slam my net down. It worked at least twice!!

First off, either carry your net around at all times or learn to be faster on the draw. There's nothing really I can help you with here.

When it comes to actually catching the Tarantula, what you should do is hold down the A button to slowly creep forward towards it. Once it notices you, it will turn towards you and make that scratching sound. This is your cue to stop moving, otherwise you'll be bitten. It's similar to how bugs on trees freeze when you are walking too fast/are too close and will fly away if you don't act more cautiously.

After a few seconds, it will stop making the hissing sound, but it will stay still and locked onto you. You can move slowly towards it again, until you hear it hissing again. Keep doing this until you get close enough to the Tarantula, and then you can easily catch it with you net. Don't wait too long to move after it stops hissing, otherwise it will lose interest in you and crawl away and possibly vanish.

I've found that by engaging the Tarantula as soon as possible (before it vanishes) and then just waiting for the Tarantula to calm down, you can creep up to it so that you're practically standing on it. As long as you don't move when it's hissing at you, it really doesn't care.

I saw one for the first time and I was just like "the hell is that.." and then it turned around and attacked me and I just woke up infront of my house.
Made me so mad ;A;

Then that little jerk decided to show his face again when I was hanging around the train station but ran before I could catch him. :<

when i was creeping around in search of one, got bit once, despawned the other two times.
consequently i found three more on accident -_______- i was walking around without a net out, and the tarantula stopped. it stared at me as i slowly pulled out my net and crept towards them and luckily i got 'em. i feel like it's luck mostly x__x at least, for me it was. they were always near a tree/flower/rock.

I just seemed to casually stroll over to the tarantula I caught. It didn't freak or come after me or anything. After reading people having experiences with it chasing them and such, I was surprised how easily I caught it.

...now scorpions, that's what I struggle with.
