I would like to have paths in my town as it would look cute but as I?ve been working on placing them, I?ve been struggling a ton. I want to have gardens for flower breeding which is why I decided to do paths but I just don?t know if tons of path struggles is worth it. What do you think? Would it be possible to forget about paths but still have flower/fruit tree gardens?

I think this is a question only you are able to answer. There are certainly merits to having paths and I personally tend to prefer towns with them, but I'm sure there are some great towns that do not use paths. It all depends on what you want your town to be. As for the question about gardens, I don't think pathways are required. Having no paths will make your flowers higher maintenance if you want to have areas without them, but I think it could be doable. Fruit trees are easy because they don't multiply like flowers do.

I see your reasoning.. I definitely want paths but for me and my town’s layout, there is just so much struggle. Do you have paths? If so, how did you place (sorry for lack of better words) them so they looked good/not messy?

I had a lot of paths in my old town. My current town is too new for me to have any particular plans yet, but I want to have some eventually. When it comes to placing them, I actually don't worry too much about it looking messy. I think asymmetry can look really good if done well, and it ends up looking a lot more natural. If a certain part looks odd after placing them, I will change it to look better, but when I am first placing them I use minimal planning.

I think paths are worth it to me. It keeps my town organized, and it prevents me from stomping on my gardens. I have them set so that I can easily connect all the areas in my town together so it’s easier to move around and get To Places.

They can certainly make a town more organized, but that's exactly why I don't use them haha.
I had them once, but it was just not working for the feel of my town.

imo they're a huge pain in the butt lmao but if you like them go for it! they really didn't work for my town because i like having flowers and such everywhere.

I tried placing paths in my town, but I just couldn't get them to look right either. I was going for a more natural town so all the straight paths with right angles just didn't fit my aesthetic. I switched to natural paths with stepping stones so that I could wind the paths through town and create natural curves in places instead of everything being in a straight line. I'm much happier with that.

So, it basically depends on what you want to achieve and the overall look you have in mind. Even without paths, you can still designate a garden area by creating some sort of entrance, maybe with an arch or a topiary on either side, and boxing the garden in with trees, bushes or bamboo.

Thank you all so much for saying your stories! I’ll give it one more try but I’ll try not to be so OCD about it :3 thanks again!

Where do you want to be able to run without wearing down the grass, or destroying flowers?

I don't really like paths in my town, but I've seen some very beautiful towns with paths. If I ever make another town I'd consider doing it, guess I just like a more natural / foresty feel to my towns.

^ What Reginald said.

Another thing to maybe consider. You want flower/fruit tree gardens. This makes me think of a town of exploration. I feel as if themed towns are associated with paths. So, exploration town does not equal paths, maybe?

Paths do take up a lot of space, depending on the path used. This is something else to consider.

If you're unsure/just want to get a feel for them, making a simple path along where you run the most frequently might be useful; odds are you probably tend to follow a "path" in your head, even if there aren't QR codes on the ground yet. That way you can decide if you like them and want to expand elsewhere in town or not.

YES THERE ARE SO MANY BENEFITS
> Running
> Containing bamboo
> Planning where PWPS will be
> Plot resetting
> Planning where villager houses will be
> Showing visitors where they can walk in your town
> Creating orchards
> Organization
> Creating special areas
> Making cute designs
> Moats around PWPS and houses

...the possibilities are endless!

I've had the same town since launch and only just started placing paths in the last couple of weeks.

Honestly, at first it seems like a lot of work, but as I could see my town taking shape, I got really into it. I started just as Autumn was changing in to Winter, so I have already changed my autumn paths to winter and planning to change them to Spring, etc.

If you're unsure, I think doing what I did might help - I started out small, just putting nice paths around my house and my favourite villagers' house, then Brewster's, the town hall, etc. This way it's a small-ish time investment but you begin to see the improvements really quickly.

I tried to do paths in my one town, but it was taking too much room up to do anything else. I guess it had something to do with the way my town's river was shaped. Overall I think that paths really make a town look nice.

Paths can make a town look amazing if done right. However, a lot of paths have a lot of tiles involved, eg. "right" and "left" paths, corner paths, stair illusions, waterways etc. Also, some paths are seasonal so you have to change them when the grass changes. If you want to try them out, I suggest using simple stepping stone designs that don't really require downloading/creating multiple parts to make it look complete. You can download single path designs to spruce them up areas that look too repetitive, eg. flower pot designs, manhole covers, etc. The only thing I found that I didn't like about paths was the fact that it made my town seem too linear and straight... but it definitely will help give an organised town look if that's what you're going for!!
