Are bridges irrelevant now?

Bridges have their use. Aesthetics, no longer needing to carry around the vaulting pole... just to name two.

But the biggest seller for me is the fact your villagers get to access more of your island. I've noticed that without bridges, your villagers don't seem to travel very far from their house.

Of course I posted wanting to know what other people thought. I probably only find them irrelevant because they're expensive and I'm broke. XD

I'm not planning on using terraforming to make bridges, I wasn't planning on doing that anyways, i just thought it was cool that you can do it, even if it looks like garbage. But, like Larimar say, they are a good temporary solution as you save up for a bridge.

True. Vaulting was cool at first but I was tired of it after day two.

Honestly? Easiest way to make Bells is to sell spare DIYs and items you have laying around -- just make sure you don't have an open plot before deciding to sell things, to prevent random move ins.

Then promptly waste all profits on turnips (and probably lose money)

I have a lot of stuff in storage that I probably could sell for a pretty penny.

And thanks for the tips, I appreciate it.

Bridges are expensive but I just love how they look so much. I just built, what I believe is called the wooden zen bridge? (I'm not near my Switch so I can't check it, haha!) But it's a lovely wood bridge with red accents. I just love walking over it. I had temporary land bridges I put in via terra forming but they didn't really give me the same satisfaction that having real bridges gives.

i don't have any bridges and i love it right now! obvs, i don't think it looks like "garbage" 😜 personally, i find all the bridge styles boring/dated and not fit to my style. to each their own! that's the beauty of the game.

i love that terraforming inspires creativity and allows for differences in expressions, whether to use as temporary non-tool crossing measure or to use as permanent structures in a natural style island, etc.

Shoot. I didn't think of the town rating. I have no idea if how many you have affected the rating.

Ahri you have a point. I mean saving money on bridges might be nice for someone who is always broke I like I am but it could be tedious going extra steps to cross a river when you could just build a bridge and be done with it.

I went back to where I made my natural bridge and it does look ridiculous. >.<

What I’m doing is keeping my river four squares wide (the standard width) and then terraforming it down to two in the places where I would want to add bridges. That way, I can still get across AND I know where I want to make bridges in the future.

The bridges are basically there now to look cool.
The island would look really wierd with all fake terraformed bridges everywhere... It'd all be way too flat

I had land bridges when I was moving my old bridges and I really didn't appreciate them. It just looked messy to me.

They are not irrelevant to me. In fact, I have seven bridges in my town, and I hardly use pole vaulting anymore.

I have not seen any of my villagers sitting on the bridges. But it is something I wanna see.

Today Teddy sat on my only bridge just as I was about to cross it, leaving me stranded... he sat for like 5 minutes, so I got my pole vault and went to the other side... after what he immediately got up and left. Major side eye...
I still like him though. >v<

Depends is the only answer I can give you. It's like asking if you should have items outside or having random villagers vs specific villagers. It's all about choice and that's why it depends on whether you want one or not

Bridges would be vital to me as I don't plan to pole vault anywhere.

I like the look of bridges, but being able to just put ones down in any area as needed and dig them up as needed is pretty helpful. Especially since if you make changes to your layouts you can easily move a little section over water without having to pay to demolish and remodel and wait.

It really depends I guess. The reason why I prefer bridges is because it helps boosts my town rating and also they’re much nicer than having to pole vault anywhere, but it’s really up to you.

It would be nice if we could have more bridge types though.

I like bridges and inclines, don't have to pull out tools or go through the animation of jumping on the stepping stones that some people like to make

Also they make your island accessible to the villagers, and help your rating. I also like how they look

I quit building bridges as soon as I unlocked terraforming. But, I will probably go back to building some of the nicer designs when I'm finished getting my layout the way I want it. As others have said, the land bridges cut off the flow of rivers too awkwardly.
