Appointment with villagers

I made a appointment with one of the villagers and I have no idea who it was. I'm pretty it was a peppy villager.

I asked everyone, but none had the option. I did save, so that's not the issue.

It has happened to me that a villager was like "Oh, I totally forgot to do X with so and so.. sry can't make it" without ping :T

This has happened to me with a normal villager only after I missed an appointment. She was so sweet that she pretended she hadn't been there waiting for me. They don't seem to complain in ACNL the same way they did in previous games. It must still affect your friendship, but they've toned down the guilt in this game tremendously. I do think it's possible that you just missed it and perhaps certain villager types won't complain about it.

Lately the appointment with the villagers are getting annoying.
I got a request from Muffy as soon as I started and it was in the hour of gameplay. So I said yes.
But Daisy asked 50 minutes into gameplay for an appointment. She gave me a time that was a hour and 10 minutes. So I had to pass.
After my visiting Muffy I got stopped by Daisy. She said that Muffy didn't like her.

To get out of a visit when something comes out I open my gates. I found this out while waiting for a villager appointment. Had some spare time so I opened them up for my harvest town to pick up some items. The villager ran up and cancelled.

This. I have had a few appointments where I was waiting for them and they never showed. Or, you go to their house and they are wandering outside. If you talk to them, they just say some variation of, "oops." So it does happen.

I'm not sure if this applied to previous games, but at least in this one, I think it gives you like a 10 minute leeway or so for the appointments (whether you're visiting them or you invite them over) so that you don't have to show up exactly on the dot for your scheduled time. If you're being invited over, you can show up a few minutes early too - they do comment on that.

However, I guess the same thing can also apply to the villagers and I think some of them do note if they're showing up late. It seems to happen the most with lazy villagers, but can also vary with the others. I've had Papi showing up 10 minutes after the scheduled time several times now.

I observed that when you time travel, appointments and requests get messed up.
