I've always been thinking of creating a new character for my island so I can have extra storage & custom design slots, and to turn his house into a "building/facility". But I am having second thoughts.

I play the game daily and this new character will mostly be ignored after I fully furnished his house and only play as him when I need to use his storage. So I kinda feel a little bad about it.

Do you guys have extra characters that also serve the same purpose?

My bf made a character on my island to play but basically gave up after 2 weeks 😅 I kept his character & house even though he rarely plays it so I can use his house for storage. I have it upgraded to the max so I can really store everything I want lol

As a heads up, unfortunately, residents on the same island share custom design slots. :/

Otherwise, the extra storage space is nice, in addition to getting an extra money spot and message bottle every day and talking to/helping NPCs another time. I don't feel bad about playing very little with my alternate character, as the account is my S/O's and I would feel much worse about him not being able to log onto his own island throughout the day.

I've thought about it, but I honestly don't know where to put another character, or don't know if I have the patience to maintain a second one. :)

Ah. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm mostly after the storage. Also, I'm no longer happy with my outdoor gym/spa, so I kinda want to turn this extra house into a commercial gym/spa of sorts. Also to have space ready for the farming and open space for rolling the snow on winter. :P

That’s a cool idea :). I’m debating about creating another character myself for extra storage and to have one more house to decorate; I’m hesitant though since I don’t want to make another account to make a character who I never will use. If we could make multiple characters under one account, then I’d do it for sure.

My main character’s house was going to be based on rooms in Skyhold in Dragon Age Inquisition, but it has turned into a house dedicated to One piece since the rooms were too small for what i had planned and the furniture from HHD that I need is not in the game.

I have two characters.
I made the second for decoration purposes. I had four characters in new leaf, and I really liked one of the previous ones (so I added them here). I needed some houses to decorate empty map parts. Also, The map looks weird with an odd number is residents. By having two, that evened it out.

Storage, absolutely. I have no idea where I'd be without that extra space! Now if only we could put DIYs in there (since it literally makes zero sense we can't) 😩 And I'd also love to do it for extra design slots... if, you know, it was an option 😛

But I mainly made them because I like having extra characters to design (both how they look and I make up little stories in my head to go along with them) and extra houses to decorate (or, in one case, to stuff full of extra DIYs SINCE I CAN'T STORE THEM OTHERWISE without an annoying and impractical workaround involving island cleanup which I'm not doing). I currently have five total characters and am considering making an alien at some point after the next update (so he can have green skin 😉). Even if I didn't have that many characters, I'd need at least one extra since I've always had a haunted house since City Folk. And having multiple characters allows me to spread out the storage and keeps things organized. I know Doug keeps extra Bug-Off stuff and DIYs, Bunny stores bunny day stuff (duh) and Mom items, Marlin has extra Gullivarrr and mermaid items, and Raven has extra mush stuff and also keeps the leaf piles I cycle out seasonally.

Anyway, I rarely actually PLAY as my side characters. I only use them to access storage and to get extra items (they helped me get all the mermaid DIYs a lot faster, and they're great for Gulliver/Gullivarrr). But I make sure all their houses are super cute (even if none of them are quite finished) and they're all dressed nicely, too.

Early on I made extra players to store event items. Extra players are helpful for extra bottle/DIY, stars, fish/bug models and visitors like Redd/Gulliver. Extra player do catch all bug, fish and diving creatures.

Yes, then I stupidly decided I didn't want another house on the island, so I deleted the user data for said character on the actual switch info and now the tent is there permanently so ...that is where my campground will always be! I didn't realize the game would still save the character if I deleted the user character on my actual switch (it was an alternate account). Don't do this! x_x

All these seasonal and special non-orderable items are basically the main culprit that fills up my storage. I like hoarding keeping every piece of these items. With Halloween, mushroom season, maple season, Harvest Festival, winter DIYs and Toy Day still coming, I don't think my storage can still survive at that point. XD

On the title screen, press the "-" button. From there, you can delete the said resident.

I tried making a new character yesterday. I thought that deleting the user from the system will delete the resident from the game. Apparently, the resident has to be deleted within the game itself.

I did make a second character for storage purposes, and I really do need one because I hoard so badly that 1600 items simply isn't going to be enough for me!

It was originally just going to be that - a place to dump stuff - but I ended up having a lot of fun having more rooms to decorate and another character to dress up. It also just feels better, the animals are good company but having another human around is probably better for my main's sanity...

There are more gameplay benefits though. Like being able to get more than one thing from visitors like Gullivarr and Redd. The only real downside I've experienced is that your islanders will constantly ask you about the second character's hobbies and tell you that they did (or didn't) see them around.

I have 3 accounts (MAYBE a fourth but probably not) for multiple reasons (mostly for extra gulliver/redd items but also for decoration)

I also thought about this too! But I hated the fact that you will need to erect another house for that. Can't Nintendo give us an option to expand our storage to more than 1600?

I made my alt for her house, so technically extra storage via displaying themed rooms. I can’t really be fussed yet to actually use her in home storage. My boyfriend also insisted on buying clothes and having a house, but he never plays. So, yes. Lol.

Honestly, I already planned on making other characters just because I had 4 total in ACNL. I really wanted to give my island a rustic little mountain town look to it, so I needed lots of houses spread out. The extra storage is a bonus though, not gonna lie, lol!

Yeah, I made a second character as well, initially only for storage like some others here, so my second character does have a fully upgraded house.

I thought I'd enjoy decorating the rooms there with themed furniture (the fruit ones, the flower ones, the star recipes you get from Celeste, etc.). So far, I haven't done much of that decorating though, and my second player is usually left to live like a neglected hermit if I don't need to store 140 bug-off rewards in their home.

But my second character has one benefit that's not mentioned here yet: If a friend comes by and wonders what I'm doing, I can just give them the extra controller and have them play. I usually make them the leader, and let them explore my island. So far, I've had quite a bit of fun with the second character that way!

I made a second one mainly for storage, but also to double up on the limited stuff. Its really nice to get 2 models each cj/flick visit, be able to grab two paintings from redd and keeping both daily gifting my villagers I usually get 2 of their framed photos within days of each other.
