Anyone else wish there were 10 personalities, not 8?

I'm honestly okay with the 8 personalities they have. I like so many villagers that 10 spots already doesn't feel like enough for the 8 personalities they have. If they add any more personalities, I personally feel like they'd need to up the spots to 15 (which I wish they would do anyway). I know some said they feel like they have no room on their island for 5 more villager houses but I have plenty of room on my island and feel like there's so much extra space? I'd honestly really like them to fill out existing personalities to have more diversity/variation rather than add new personality types. I'd be fine with having extra villagers of the same personality if they didn't have so much repeat dialogue.

I agree, however I feel like to add 2 new types they would need to overhaul the personalities.

Having only 8 personalities meant that they had to be broad. So any new personality we come up with would overlap too much with existing ones.

Want an academic/smart/shy personality? You better mix up Lazy, Smug, and Snooty.

Want an energetic weirdo. Chop up Lazy, Normal, and Peppy.

We would also need more villagers, obviously (12-14). This g are has enough space for that. They could just cap villagers depending on the amount of human players you have on your island, if they are worried about space...or make the island bigger.

God, yes. I was shocked when NL had two new personalities but NH ended up not having any! I would love to see new personalities, but also have the personalities not be defined by gender. Why not have jock females or normal males?

Plus, 10 plots with only 8 personalities makes for a lot of repeated dialog. I love my normal and peppy villagers (I have two of each), but wow am I getting sick of their conversations.

M'yeah... For example, I love both Ankha and Judy but they're both Snooty villagers which have very specific dialogue. I don't have Judy yet but I'm kind of afraid that she's gonna sound too much like Ankha :/

Or, like, I have both Merengue and Marina and they both told me about how they want to keep their homes neat in case their parents show up within less than an hour. This could be avoided if there were 2 additional personality types, though I admit I'm sort of at a loss as to what sort of personalities those could be...

Yes! It would be nice to either have two more personalities, or I'd be happy even if they just made villagers with opposite gender personalities. e.g. I'd love a lazy female villager, or a normal male villager.

If there was that would be even more personalities I'm missing out on because of only having 5 personalities in my dreamies list so I think I'm fine with only 8 personally

Maybe, but my island is already so imbalanced, haha. 4 normal, 3 lazy, 1 smug, 1 cranky, 1 uchi.

Yes, having double personalities on your island is getting pretty annoying very easily in my opinion. I think it would have been better if Nintendo made (invisible?) sub-personalities so that all of the dialogue gets split into two and two f.e. jock villagers would have unique dialogue.

I wouldn't mind new personalities.

But, I can only imagine all the crying that would result from people when x character gets changed from y personality to z personality.

I think more distinct personality subtypes and opening personalities to each gender would be a better route. This could also just enable them to kind of rid of limited genders from the villagers like they did in the character selection. You'd still see people complain but probably not as big if their dreamie got changed from a lazy to whatever new personality was there.

I agree with this! Having only 8 personality types and 10 villager slots means that you'd have to have villagers with the same personalities on your island.. Which means repetitive dialog, which sucks so hard especially when the other same personality type would repeat whatever the first one just said literally seconds ago. ;;

There are almost 400 different villagers already. I am skeptical that the game’s designers would devote resources to creating and developing at least 50 more, complete with two new catered dialog types

So I have to miss out on an entire personality if I have two dreamies of the same personality? No thanks

this honestly. I had to sacrifice a villager I really love already because I enjoy uchi dialogue and replaced them with an uchi. I'm missing a jock and before my 300 dreamie list revisions, I was missing a cranky too. it's too much for my little ol heart to take. obviously new ideas for personalities is exciting, but I'm really struggling to come up with more than 1-2 ideas that wouldn't feel forced.

edit: not to mention the time it takes to make a new personality. you gotta write lines of dialogue for EVERYTHING. villager hasn't talked to you in a while? new line of dialogue. villager is sitting down? new line of dialogue. villager talks to other villager and lets you listen in on the conversation? well guess what, you have to consider at least 2-3 conversations for EVERY TYPE COMBINATION.
then, they have to translate it into every language the game is playable in, make revisions, etc etc.
I know nintendo is a big team and this would be possible, but it just doesn't seem like a priority to me.

Personally, I feel conflicted as is trying to get one of each when so many of my dreamies are normals or snooties. I haven't really worn up to smugs, though I did just adopt Zell! It's weird because I love Puddles my Peppy frog, who loves to mention her imminent fame, but for some reason when I hear it from a Smug villager, it feels different.

I think the one comment I heard from Puddles was how she was gazing at the stars above, and that she'd make a pun about her being a star too but she was too in awe of nature. It was so sweet Q-Q

I haven't had a moment like that with a Smug, so maybe that's it, heh.

BUT ANYWAYS, my point is, I'm hard pressed wanting so many of one personality, if I had to choose just one of each, I'd be choosing for an extremely long time XD

Honestly no, UNLESS they added a greater villager cap. My dreamie list includes two duplicate personalities already and that's not going to change, but I don't want to be negatively affected by suddenly not having a island with at least one of each (since my dreamie list currently does allow for that)

I should add in favor of the OP's point, hearing the exact same dialogue from two different villagers does wave away some of the enchantment of what was said. It's at that moment where you feel a bit disillusioned. But well, at least two are dupe personalities, so you'll have to just do your best ^^

Oh I was also going to add! The Normal type does seem to have a naive, sweet, academic air! They talk often about their love of reading and writing, how they win writing awards and such, their love for cooking. That is likely your best bet for that sort of feel ^^

I wouldn't mind seeing more personality types, but I'd also like to see more depth to the ones we already have. I'm not saying that to sound complain. I just think that would be something that would be easier to implement in NH than having an entirely new personality would. If there is a new personality type, I don't expect to see it in NH.

If there are new personalities, I'd like the villager cap to be extended. I think having two extra slots for personalities you like or villagers you like the design of is a good idea.

Yessss, I wish! I don't know what my other personality choices would be but it would certainly make things a bit more interesting.

Shy personality would be nice.. although normals seem kinda shy at times.
Nerdy would be fun. It would be a good personality for both genders. They could be into science or talk about video games or arcade games.
I think a personality that’s not gender locked would be cool

More variety is always welcomed, especially when it comes to personalities, villagers, and dialogue since that's always been the main focus of the game for me. I wish they would let the personalities and genders mix too, as others have said.
