Tbh, I don’t give a care in the world about Raymond. On one side, it’s soul crushing to see one of your favorite villagers on nookazon priced for the (lowest on nookazon) of 1 million bells, as it makes it feel like people find them as, ‘just some lame villager’. On the other hand, it’s ridiculous seeing a villager that you don’t even care for, priced at an even more ridiculous price of some thousand nook milE tickets.

People like what they like.
Supply and demand.

Certain villagers fit popular aesthetics and trends.
Gonna always be that way :'p

In terms of Raymond, not only does he fit a certain aesthetic, he's considered "Rare" because he lacks an amiibo.
People like rare stuff...?
-Shrugs-

It doesn't bother me as I prefer not to view villagers as having a price tag attached to them. I don't think having a set value to a villager makes them more "worthy" than others.

How you value your villagers is subjective, and the entire idea of popularity amongst villagers is a made up concept. It's more enjoyable when you just choose your villagers based on your personal liking, not based on how others view them as.

Some of the prices do seem a bit much, but it's all just supply and demand I guess. And if a villager I love and want on my island is priced cheaply then that just means they're that much easier for me to get! Even if other people see them as lame, why should I care? They're entitled to their opinion, and I'm entitled to mine. As for villagers I don't like as much being super expensive, I just feel bad for the people who do want them since they'll either have to get lucky, put in a lot of time with the campsite method or visiting mystery islands, or pay a lot.

not really! if anything, i find it kind of interesting, especially as someone uninvolved in the villager market. the villagers i like range from marshal and ankha to elvis and bettina, and how other people think of them won’t change that~

I find buying villagers makes them feel like more of an object to me so I try to get the ones I want by myself, and if I cant get them I dont mind naturally going through villagers. I actually kind of like collecting their photos! But for the people who like buying/selling more power to you, to each their own. A couple of villagers that moved out of my town I gave away to people who really wanted them. I would be afraid to do this with an "expensive" villager as a lot of people would probably be looking to just resell :(

The villager stuff doesn’t bother me really. I’m sick of people who have been obviously duplicating highly sought after items and selling them for crazy prices on here unchecked.

*cries in laboriously crafting expensive items for the villagers I'm best friends with only to be given ugly clothes in return instead of a photo*

I do agree with you. I like trying to find the villagers I want myself. The game hasn't been out anywhere near long enough for me to personally feel anxious about not having all of my faves. But if other people can't handle the game without their faves, then more power to 'em to go buy, I guess. The prices wouldn't exist without the demand.

it doesn’t bother me as i stray away from that side of trading but some of those prices do be bonkers

To be honest I’m moving Winnie into my town because I always wanted to meet her and I loved her in my campsite. My advice is fall in love with some villagers everyone ignores. You’ll get them for free 😂 kidding but the laws of supply and demand will always apply here. The only think that bothers me are people who have clear intent to rip someone off out of greed.

I... actually don't mind. It's a lot easier to get villagers in the game without buying them! I kinda enjoy the challenge of finding them myself while I idly watch youtube or something.

Nookazon's prices are usually quite a bit higher than here, with the exception of NMTs. (Part of it may be a lack of enforcement / clear guidance about duping -- I don't use their site so I don't really know much about them besides prices).

Villagers are frequently given away (and unfortunately voided) here, and those that you have to pay for are usually priced reasonably. A million bells isn't that difficult to obtain through the stock market. I highly suggest you take advantage of the New Neighbor Network subforum here. Yes, Raymond is expensive, but most other villagers are fairly easy to obtain as long as you look consistently. And on the bright side, it'll be funny to watch Raymond's price fall through the floor whenever Nintendo (hopefully) releases an amiibo of him.

I "bought" half of my current villagers, but always thought of the NMTs as more of a tip/fee so that the other person can go dreamie hunting, so more like a dreamie exchange than a sale. And all the people I got them from were very sweet, and we even talked a little bit after the trade was over so it felt more wholesome. They all wished my villagers the best in their new home 😊
So I wouldn't let a villager's "price" online determine their value. I got one of my villagers for 35 NMTs and another for 5 and I love them the same

When you buy or amiibo a villager, you're missing out on the fun of finding them. Sure it can cost lots of NMTs, but it's worth it when you walk up on a mystery island and find a dreamy of yours standing there. Same thing goes with the stalk market. Sure, you can get rich quick, but the game will get really boring after a short while.

If the only way I could obtain a dreamy was from other players but I could never afford their prices, I'd probably be a bit salty, but I haven't gone through that yet with any villager. Most of my dramies have been pretty easy to get because they aren't super popular or the game somehow made it easy for me to obtain them, or I found their amiibo even.
