Idk I just don’t have any ideas and I don’t really care either. I didn’t do much in New Leaf either except placing a few PWPs that I liked. Idk it’s just not a town designing game to me. I play it like I played the Gamecube title, Wild World and City Folk? lol. You know, chat to your villagers, pay off and design your house, fill up the museum, all that? There’s so much of that to do that I don’t even care about designing.
Though I do want to have some fun with flower breeding, but I can’t find the fence diy recipe, where’s that? I might have... Not listened while Tom Nook was talking in the tutorial about fences... oops

I didn't care about design till this last month, I just played for achievements and stuff, knowing that I would switch to design when I got a bit bored playing that way. Was very daunting though when I did start on my design; so many flowers -shudder-

You can buy the fences from the nook miles machine inside the Resident Service building. You buy the recipes with your nook miles.

Also, I do love decorating my island, but I actually prefer the ones with minimal decorating and stuff. I was going for a simple look with my island, buuuuuuuuuuuut.... I went overboard heheh. Decorating comes as a huge plus for me, what I find most fun is all the simpler things like you said from the older games, where decorating outside wasn't really a thing (except NL where we started with the paths and PWPs).

Ahhhh thank you for your replies!!
Yeah I was thinking on getting some fencing and doing some fun things with flowers
maybe I can go for a natural town xD

And thanks for the fencing information lol

Haha, natural towns are the best. Also, I forgot to say this, but they only sell two types of fences a day. They switch it up every day tho, but yeah. ^^

Yeah I didn't really decorate my island much until after I took a break around May (I believe?). When I first started the game, like you I was into more bug and fish collecting for the museum. However, after I caught all the ones available for that month, I found myself with not much to do, and so I started time travelling and grinding for DIY's instead (at that point I allowed time travelling, but not for catching fish/bugs). This went on for quite a while, and with all the spare's I got I ended up opening a shop on here, and then I started grinding even more to fill that up and make TBT. Then I took a hiatus since I felt burnt out on the game, got back and did a slight bit more grinding, and then just slowed down with the game again.

During the couple months after I had got back into the game, I built probably 3 nice areas total (which I know is very slow for some people), but the recent build competitions have definitely got me much more interested in decorating stuff. I've already got a few areas planned out with what I want to do, but i'm still taking it slow so that I know i'm enjoying it, and not rushing just to "complete my island" or anything. I plan to still be playing this game until at least a couple months from now, and giving myself a lot of time in between decorating does help me think of stuff I really want to create. Within that time, I also usually get a few bits of inspiration from other people's islands as well, so that always helps gives me new ideas to enhance my areas as well, which is nice.

never really bothered to beautify my island, got paths down and thats about it, never really bothered terraforming either

I'm playing the same way as previous titles. Generally I throw things around but my main focus at first is just collecting (catalog, diys, clothing, etc). Once my catalog is complete or close to...and once I've had a chance to see what future DLC items and/if other shops to place then I'll start seriously designing what I want.
I also want to get my encyclopedia finished first.

I had my island one way, now have decided to do something very different, so it's stripped down right now.

Now that I have more than enough lillies of the valley to last a lifetime (even without TTing!), I def am tempted to remove some of my more elaborate displays... but I don't think I could ever go fully back to an unadorned island. I do get real feels when I think back to the more undeveloped island moments early in the game, so I guess I just hope those of you keeping it simple share out your Luna code so I can visit your dreams!

I'm not big on outdoor decorating. I just reached 5 stars about 20 minutes ago, and now I'm pretty much going to be done. Elaborate islands are beautiful, but I just like the feel of a classic AC town. However, I will admit, now that my island's dream has gotten a lot more visitors than I expected, I'm feeling a bit self-conscious about my island in comparison to the really nice ones I've visited lol.

Personally, decorating my island is my FAVORITE part of the game! I spend way too much time getting everything perfect! I reached three stars before I even started trying, and I got five stars accidentally as well. I certainly enjoyed the previous games where decorating wasn't really as big of a thing, but now that it's an option, it's my favorite thing to do!

BUT. Part of the reason I LOVE this game is that there ARE so many ways you can play it. It can be a decorating game... or you could focus on bugs and fish. Or playing with your villagers. Or enjoying events. It's nice to have so many options, and I love how the same game can be enjoyed by so many different people in so many different ways ☺

I like decorating, but I'm also extremely lazy. Flowers are an enormous pain to remove so at this point, I only decorate with extra motivation (like the recent TBT events). I have poor planning skills as well, so I'm nervous to spend hours on a project that I'll just end up hating.

My husband doesn't. Every time he plays Jr just goes fishing. I feel sad for his villagers wandering around his empty island! 🤣

I prefer to catch fish or bugs and talk to villagers, not decorate. I only terraformed a bit to change the river, and I only have a few decorated areas.

For me, I prefer the natural look when I'm playing. I think having too much furniture can make it tough to move around the island, which would make things quite difficult for me when I'm fishing or catching bugs.

I’m decorating my island as best as I can even with the limited furniture selection, and just leaving some spots empty (like on my stalls) when I am stumped on how to make use of what furniture I have or that is in the game.

Now, my house, I tried to decorate a little but found out that the rooms aren’t the same size as they were in NL so I stopped working on my house. I might later try to come up with some other ideas on how to decorate my house, but the ideas I had do not work at all because of not enough space and no way to realy substitute items I’d need to make the ideas work. So, I’m waiting for more furniture to be released and hope that they either work with my ideas or I get a new idea.

I’m really bad at it tbh- I have paths laid down and fences, and a few benches and such but other than that I’ve not done much lol
Wish I were more patient, I get bored with terraforming easily :/

I never really focused on decorating my town in NL. I was more focused just unlocking everything which I never did :( ( I just wanted the police station) But for NH I have a layout I love and have 5 Stars now I spend hours decorating the heck out of it.
