Anyone else not a fan of custom clothes/paths in this game?

I do use custom paths but they are dirt or bricks bordering dirt so the flat sounds don't bother me as much as I thought they would. I can't go back to how my town looked without the paths and borders.... that said I wish the pixel grid was bigger so more detail could be put into the designs.

I also try not to use custom paths bc I love hearing the clacking sound when you walk on the paths 🥺 but I use some stepping stone designs since there’s no real alternative in the default paths

I agree that some do look a bit flat but I think we’re better off in NH than in NL! things look smoother now imo

I kind of like that the qr paths they made can still have stuff dropped on it, displayed, planted/shoveled, ect. I didn't like in NL how the custom paths were just treated like solid concrete. Dirt path vs shovel *clonk!* Snow path *clonk!* It kind of broke away the immersion. So I haven't really used any custom paths yet. I think some of them look pretty from afar, but if I was to interact with it, I'd realize how shallow it is when certain things are missing or can't be done.

Honestly I wish I wasn't a fan of them because I'm kinda addicted to custom designs at this point! Doesn't matter if it's pathing, clothes or just some leaves. I spend so much time looking on Pinterest and Reddit at designs. I've got folders on laptop filled with them 😅

I do try to avoid custom pathing that isn't just a side trail because as others have said, I enjoy the pitter patter of feet 🥺

I use a variation of The Path and couldn't imagine my island without it now.

It suits my island's aesthetic perfectly.

I think they look too fake.

Unfortunately the dirt paths in island designer are just as fake looking.

Really miss my beautiful, natural dirt paths from NL.

I tried making a custom dress, and yeah: The ables clothes in the game are so much better due to the added texture and Normal Maps. Letting us alter those parts would improve them, but explaining how they'd work would be a tough ordeal... Maybe they could just add templates with such textures/normal maps added to them, so our designs would be an extra layer atop of the chosen template.

As for the paths... I don't use custom paths because of the weak sound they make, but I don't use the premade paths much either, as I don't like how work on diagonals and curves. I wish they had more rugged grass borders so they could blend in with the grass - and wish the dirt pathings could transition with the rock-based paths rather than them making thin grass borders between each other.

I agree. I've never been fond of using custom clothes in any of the Animal Crossing games because of the texture they have. They do come off as flat. I've used custom designs in New Leaf because they had certain pants or certain types of clothes that I could get creative with. For example, in New Leaf, there were wrestler pants, and even though they have red knee patches, I ended up making a custom Superman top to go with them. 😆 There were some shorts, too, so I made a lederhosen top to go with them. Fortunately, in New Horizons they have a lederhosen outfit. 🥰 For custom paths, I've made a couple, but I haven't really used them. They look nice, but I wish we were at least given an option of what they should sound like when stepped on. Even if you put them over actual terraformed stone, they still don't make the stone sound. :(

I think there are certain areas or situations where I prefer custom paths or designs. Usually it's not so much any pathing but moreso adding some detail to independent spaces, especially since there's only so many garden rocks I can add to a rock garden before it starts to look more repetitive than pretty! I like to use them to add some variety and take up space where it makes sense, but I very much agree that the glow-up with the in-game paths AND clothing are very much what I prefer.

I only use custom designs for my flag and shop signs.

The game itself already provided a lot of good options for creating pathways and clothing. So I don't really see the need.

I don't use custom paths because they take up too much pattern space. I really don't use custom clothes either, because I think the in game ones are pretty good. Most of my patterns are used for the wooden sign. I have 16 of them in my town. I love them.

I rarely use custom clothes. While there are some out there which looking beautiful, I just prefer to use the regular clothes for my characters.

As for custom paths, I never really used any paths back in New Leaf and as for New Horizons, I use the one from the Island Designer. They work perfectly for me, so there is no need for me to get any custom paths at all.

can't you fix the paths not showing up on the map by putting in game paths under your custom paths (with no transparent pixel)? it's more work but it works, i've thought about doing it on a part of my island i have covered with custom designs because it looks like my map is a bit empty when really it's filled up with a street made of custom designs.

i really like custom paths in the game overall though, they bring so much more dimension and lets you do a bunch of stuff. it's the best we have so i don't mind that they're flat, i still think they look nicer than nintendo's paths and they're more dynamic, in my opinion The Path (tm) looks much more natural than nintendo's dirt paths.

My only complaint is that I really wish that they added custom socks and shoes to the game. Now, that would be pretty cool.
