Don't get me wrong, I LOVE that so many people purchased ACNH because for once I have friends who actually play it consistently. However, I hugely miss the general calmness of the ACNL community that matched the beloved 3DS game. With so many people playing this game the community has exploded and somebody in the ACNH Rant Thread mentioned how the "meta" of this game is insane with people racing to do certain things and it's just sometimes stressful to look at these forums or Reddit. It feels like this game is a competition sometimes. Maybe the ACNL community was like this upon release but I really don't remember it being this way at all.

Anyways, I can't wait until the fans who are really in this game for the long haul are the only ones around and maybe then the community can match the relaxing nature of the game it loves. Again, I love and welcome the new fans and I hope you all join us in the great future I know this game has.

I think the hardcore fans are many of the ones who aren’t playing it calmly, which is fine. I admit sometimes I am the same way. I like that more people are enjoying the game. Yes, many of the ones on YouTube search for the same popular villagers but some hardcore fans do the same. I feel the community has always been competitive or full of completionists and that’s ok. That won’t ever change.

I'm a hardcore fan myself but I take it at my own pace. Yes, eventually I'd like to get 100% completion but I'm not going to just buy out everything I need on the forums.

Thing is, the game can be competitive if you make it that way. Take it at your own pace and let the hype be just that. We'll all be here when the dust settles. :)

While this is my first Animal Crossing game, and I was definetly part of the quarantine hype train, I am rather excited to see the fandom calm down, and have the communities pace match the pace of the game a little closer.

Welcome to the community! Glad you're enjoying the game and yes, it will be nice once we get to that point!

That's fair but at the same time, those hardcore fans eventually will complete everything and either stop playing or start playing at a calmer pace considering there is no more for them to complete. Either way I imagine it leading to a more relaxed community in the end. But you're right, no matter how you play, as long as you are having fun.

I don't mind a ton of people playing the game due to the hype. There's always going to be extreme ends in every community and not everyone who plays the game at a faster pace for completion will quit anytime soon. I'm just really tired of people constantly exploiting every duping glitch and charging like 10 NMT to sell turnips (lol)

AC was never meant to be a competitive game and I don't see it as one. Sometimes I go in binges and buy a ton of stuff at once to finish something and sometimes I don't. It's all at my own pace and I couldn't care less about how fast other people are completing their games. I would hope people wouldn't take the time to care about how quick I can move either.

at first I liked seeing animal crossing in the news and stuff, I never knew the game was this popular!
but it's just a bit much now, they make articles about the most idiotic things really
but I do think it's great that so many people know about the game now!
all that 'I don't like it when things that I like become mainstream' mindset is stupid anyway.
It's like people saying they don't like certain villagers because they are popular.. they are popular for a reason?

and the game is only competitive if you make it that way really
I like trading and collecting the furniture I want, but that doesn't mean I'm in a rush
I just want to decorate my island in the best way that I can and I like to change things up every now and then

I'm actually the opposite I enjoy the vast love for this game and I want it to continue to be popular as it is, however since Quarantine is slowly starting to go away I'm sure the game is going to lose some people as many go back to work and do everyday things again

A friend of mine who has been into Animal Crossing for years keeps telling me how much she appreciates the fame the game has now but also just wants for things to calm down a bit because it's exhausting. I absolutely understand her reasoning, I'd feel the same way. I'm one of those who started playing only recently but I'm trying to do my best to just be slow about it and not race through the game. (Not my playing style anyway.) But I do plan on sticking around because I've never been the type who gets into something and then drops it after a few weeks. I choose my fandoms carefully, heh.

It's true that a lot of people are playing like nuts right now because of current issues, but even those of us who play the game for longer periods of time (as in months/next year, etc.) when the rest leave will probably still time travel. We'll probably still want to collect everything, and we'll probably still anxiously desire to get certain villagers. I use the word still because we do it right now! This is the kind of game where doing all this, even with time travel, takes a VERY VERY long time. I'm not sure about anyone else, but collecting and time travelling have been part of my style since I started playing the gamecube game. And I was able to play the game for years! And I'm discovering new things about this game because of the community/connection based emphasis (that comes with access to places like discord). As many have said, it's only a competition if you see it that way. Many people play the game with the same context, and don't see it as a competition. I've never seen the game as a competition, I see it as a game people use to build skills, and expose who they are at the core! It's the kind of game that can do that.

Either way, I think no matter what, there will be a handful of people from each kind of play style group who will stay. Some will choose to be slower, some will still be looking to grab the achievements quickly.

Couldn't agree more with this. I'm so happy AC is getting the love and attention it has always deserved and this means Nintendo will give their all when doing updates which might not have happened if this game sold just ok. However, like your friend, I too feel exhausted by the fame that the game is getting.

Also welcome to the game!

Nope, I don’t feel the community had become toxic, which sometimes happen in other game serier, and I just love that other people can see what makes something I love amazing too! It will become calm soon, and then I’ll miss all the fanart and memes, really

Thank you! I'm also trying out WW, CF and NL at the moment (gotta look back at the classics to understand the current version, IMO) so I'm pretty busy with all things Animal Crossing, lol! I totally get what you mean. I'd be overwhelmed and exhausted as well if I had a fandom that suddenly entered mainstream and everyone and their dog was talking about it and overwhelming social media and message boards and whatnot, lol. (It's why I try to not post TOO much here, I don't want to add to the exhaustion.) I do also expect for things to calm down sooner or later though - I'd say a lot of people will move on to other games. There's some major stuff coming out soon for PS4, for example.

One thing that bothers me about Animal Crossing's sudden popularity is how the vocal minority is seen as the vocal majority. For example, very few people don't like time travelers. When I saw people on Twitter complaining about time traveling and just gatekeeping in general, articles were made about it. Some person who I find very annoying because he always makes videos revolving drama made a video on it. I left him a comment and told him that they must be new to the game, because people hating on time traveling isn't a new thing, and that very few people actually hate it. Way more people do it than one might think, and it doesn't matter, because it's their game and not yours. Anyway, I do hope the hype train dies down, but it is nice to see this game getting noticed.
