When I started playing, I decided I wanted to try a lot of new villagers first rather than filling my town with old faves. But now I find I'm hesitant to re-try those favourites. Maybe it's because a couple I have stumbled upon, I was disappointed. Lobo was the worst I think, they changed his colour entirely!
So now I'm a little worried that the rest of my favourite neighbours won't be the same either. What has your experience been?
I only have one villager that I also had in New Leaf, Fuchsia, I love her so much. She was not my favorite in NL and she only lived on my island for a short while, but somehow now I consider her one of my favs since she joined my island back in April. Never considered letting her go due to I already had her. My other villagers I never had though and I already found new favorites.
I do have a few villagers from my New Leaf town on my island, those being Leopold, Pietro and Filbert, but the rest are all villagers that I didn't have in NL. Many of the villagers on y island consist of ones that I've liked for a long time, villagers I had years and years ago on the Gamecube, and NL villagers that I just didn't have any room for in my old town.
So yeah I basically tried to have as many "new" villagers as possible and I really like it that way!
Well, kinda. I try to get villagers this time which I barely or never had in the previous games before, not just to meet some new faces in general, but also to get to know other villagers better. However, I still pick sometimes my favorites, as I just like them too much, lol.
I have some of my favorites from NL like Zucker and Henry.
I also found Wolfgang who was my permanent NL resident because I came across him on a mystery tor.
I'll also eventually move in Katt - my favorite uchi.
When starting the game I wanted to experience a wide array of villagers before deciding on permanent ones but for someone who doesn't TT, villagers move-outs can take way too long. So right now I'm just waiting for someone to move to get my missing jock.
I suppose you can't make a lot of new favorites if you always stick to your old favorites. I wouldn't say I'm avoiding my old friends Wolfgang and Wendy and Goose, but I feel like there isn't really a place for many of them on my island rn theme-wise. Often my attachment to them was part of my attachment to the story of the towns - having them on Espera isn't the same as the bond I had with them in Treehut, Stardust or Melemia.
That carries forward too. I have Billy as my jock rn, and I love him to bits! Yet if I were to restart my island, or move on to the next AC game, I don't think I'd want Billy (or even Ursala or Rodney!) back. They're Espera favorites and part of Espera's history, not that of another island or town. It would be a new adventure, and I'm bound to see and fall in love with some fresh faces.
Half my villagers are old and half are new. When I was first planning them out, I think I was going with 80% old, but then I saw Zucker on my second mystery island and decided I would switch things up. He's no longer on my island but he's the reason why I ended up trying something new this time.
I am someone who is currently avoiding getting my old favorites from NL
I wanted to try new villagers and I am really glad I did because now I have even more favorites. It was extremely difficult leaving Fang and Chrissy behind when I found them on a mystery island though ;-;
I only have Pietro from my NL town and I'm definitely avoiding my former permanent residents! In NL I had a strict dreamie line-up and I had them for years, never switching things up.
In NH I decided I'm only bringing Pietro over and everyone else on my island will just... be spontaneous?
I don't have a dreamie line-up at all. If I see a neat little animal on an island while island hopping, I'll simply take them in. They might become a permanent resident, they might not. It's actually very fun to just see all the animals and get to know new faces.
Cole was definitely one of my favorites. I haven’t really tried to get him just yet in new horizons though. I do have his amiibo, so it’s not that complicated if I end up getting him later on.
I'm trying to have a few old favorites who used to live in my NL or WW towns, but also a lot of new ones. Almost all of my new villagers are ones I wanted in NL/WW but could never find, so this is a great opportunity to finally get them!
I have one of my old villagers from New Leaf in New Horizons: Rudy. I like him as a villager, but he is by no means my favorite. I've generally tried avoiding villagers that I've had in previous games, but I'm willing to bend that rule a bit if it means I have to do a little less island hopping, which is far more time-consuming that I would have liked.
Yes, I don't want to get any of the villagers I have in NL even though Marshal is adorable. The only one I'm considering getting again is Coco but she's a normal and I have like 4 normals already. I also don't like her house as much as the NL one, it's not the same without the gyroids :/ I recently got Marcie who I had in my second NL town but ended up leaving at some point and I feel like I am not really connecting with her in NH for some reason even though I used to love her.
That was my initial plan, but one of the three first houses I built got a random move-in who ended up being Clyde. And then when I went looking for my sixth villager on island tours, I ran into a few favourites from my New Leaf town. I ended up caving in and inviting Monty to my island. Hopefully I can let them go once I obtain their pictures.
Not all of them because some i just cant do without, like Marshal. Actually, now that i think about it he is almost the only one i am sure about getting but i have changed my mind about the rest like Sprinkle.
