Any way to get villagers to wear your designs?

I want Rolf and Chief to wear my designs. Problem is, I can't get them to wear them! Any suggestions on how to help them wear my designs? They are in the able sisters shop and fill all the spaces.

They'll wear them eventually there's no way to get them to wear it like wearing actual non designed clothes

Ah. It's so annoying! I just spent ages making Rolf and Chief custom clothes. I made Rolf an anchor shirt and Chief a pirate's jacket.

I also know that time travelling speeds it up, but so far I've had no luck.
