it seems to take so long for them to ping me and then leave... i?ve been doing TT tricks, but it seems to take forever. any extra advice would be helpful :)

There's not really a trick that works, apart from time traveling to find the mover every 10 days.. It will mess with your gameplay though if you travel too many days ahead at once, so I'd watch a video on time traveling/villager cycling first if that's what you'd like to do. And if not, there should be one villager pinging you every 10 days! :)

I had a villager move in when I was trying to fill it up with a dreamie, and it really annoyed me!
Really I just found that I had to TT to get them to move out. There?s not really anything you can do besides that. Doing anything to hurt your friendship won?t help.
Just don?t go more than two days and make sure you see it any other villagers ping you first, because most likely they will be. It took me forever to get Sparro out, but eventually after all my other villagers had asked, he did ask me! I think I had to TT about 40 days into the future, haha. But I went forward a few days and then went back.

They leave on their own, and usually try once every 10 days.
Just talk to them every day, and wait for the "ping".

WARNING: Some people will say to ignore them....
DO NOT. I REPEAT. D O--------N O T------I G N O R E-------T H E M.

Unfortunately yeah, like everyone has said, no available trick besides time travelling.
The link Ably gave is very thorough, but I don't have patience to read all carefully (reading different language takes quite patience for me haha;) so here's a tiny tip to fasten the process juuust a little bit.

The basic is,

  • Someone is for sure planning to move out when you have more than 8 villagers.
  • They plan that 10 days cycle.
10 days cycle :
For example, say, you declined Lolly's moving plan on June 1st.
Then someone besides Lolly is planning to move out after June 10th.
This doesn't mean it's always exactly 10 days later but it means sometime by 10 days later.

So, if you wanna kick out a certain villager,
  1. Stop someone moving out if it's not the one you want to let go.
  2. Figure out who's moving out next by either
    • Time travel 9 days forward, talk to all the villagers, or
    • Down below.
      1. Change the system clock (not town clock) to a year later(or any day that's far enough).
      2. Start the game with a newly created character and check who's gone. This villager who's gone is the one who's planning to move out.
      3. Change the system clock back to current date.
      4. Load the mayor and stop this villager from moving out.
Just repeat this until it's the one who you want to let go.

Honestly wish you the best of luck!

This is genius, Red!
I can't see how I could mess this up either, it appears to be a very safe way to move villagers out, and possibly quicker/easier than the method I use.

Haha yes could be efficient than talking to all the villagers and wait for them to ping. Though, when "he" (the one you wanna kick out) is stubborn, repeating this process is actually deadly tedious. And it could lead to the careless mistake. Well, TTing just to kick out someone is tedious anyway.

Seems like other people have beat me to it but I'll give my advice anyway. You first need to talk to the villager for the first time to introduce yourself. If you're thinking of hitting them with a hammer/net or pushing them around, it's not going to help as you actually end up interacting with them, something that you don't want to do after you introduce yourself. If you have garbage in your town, send one to them through a letter and they'll be disgusted and should bring their friendship level down. That's how I did it when I wanted to move Canberra out of my town so I hope this helps in some way.

I thought the garbage stuff didn't really help? And I have Canberrra in my town right now because I forgot to make a new character and check for people moving in :( I think she looks so weird but Uchi villagers are funny

You could skip 1 day in the future. A random villager will ask every 1-2 days within a 10 day period. Each villager has a chance of asking again after 10 days go by. Do not go 10 days because this will stop them from "pinging" you. IIRC, you must talk to them once every 7 days to prevent going into STRANGER MODE. So do not skip more than 6 days.

No, this is not how it works. You do want to talk to them, it makes no difference in anyway, but it's better you talk to them so you can get them to tell you they are moving out.

Villagers are programmed to want to leave about every 10 days, whether they like you and the town or not. So don't bother ignoring or sending trash.

Just play the game and talk to them. In the next 10 days, they will ask to leave (Provided you've reached maximum occupancy)
