I'm trying to tan one of my side characters, but I don't think I'm doing it right!
I go to the island and leave her standing there for a few hours, but she's no darker the following (non-tt) day.
So is there a method to this that eludes me?
Thanks!

or clothing with sleeves?

im not sure if short sleeve count but to be on the safe side i usually use tanks and shorts with no head gear or accessories. also be mindful that wearing your diving suit will make you not tan I believe( mpt sure but to be safe dont wear that while trying to tan)

From what I remember you don't need to be out too long to get the tanning for that day.
What I'm saying is, being out for multiple hours won't make you tanner than being out there for an hour.

Also, the time frame for tanning is a bit specific, so you might want to check that you're in the right hours. :)

Go into an island mini-game. The weather is always sunny there. 15 minutes a day, everyday. It's what I used to do.
-Wear a tank-top
-Leave the 3DS open

From what I've read and been told in the past, apparently you'll want to go to the island and just float out in the water for 15 minutes per day when there's no cloud cover, during the morning or early afternoon hours preferably. You want your character in the water instead of just standing around because I guess the game mechanic wants your character to actually be moving around and "playing" the game, and the swimming, even if it's just sitting there, counts.

There are five levels of tan, so it would take that many days to achieve the maximum level of tan. Then, of course, you'd need to keep doing it every day to maintain it.

I've never done this myself yet so I can't verify it, but I intend to tan one of my characters once I get back into playing regularly, so take it with a grain of salt.
