So I decided to wifi for the first time today and someone tried to visit my town but they got an error code. So I tried visiting theirs and I got the same problem. Later on someone else tried to visit my town to sell their turnips but they got an error code too! Is it me or them or is the game having some issues at the moment? I heard people/game are having trouble with the Dream Suite, is it the same for this too? :(

I have the same problem. I can see the towns that are open, but I can't visit. My internet connection is perfect, so that's not the problem?
In fact, that error code problem seems to be quite common...

Yeah, I get to the part where it says waiting for the train and then Resetti pops up and says an error occurred when my internet works fine! I'm glad it's not just me but I would really like to wifi soon. Is there any way to fix this problem? :(

I know! It happened to me and my bf quite a few times o_o maybe its a bug from Nintendo, because the internet connection was fine :s

Same here!
In my case, the error code comes just after choosing the town I want to visit. Best-friend message-exchange function works perfect... I don't get it. Oh, well. Good luck for you all.

If it provides an error code, you might want to try looking up the number on nintendo's error code lookup!

It depends on how far in distance you are from your router, the quality of your service, & if your router is a good model. Everyone here has made the correct assumption- it's either you, them, or both.

If you're sure your side of the connection is solid (your smartphone & laptop wifi performance is a decent indicator) then try to connect only to Friends near your area & not in the North Pole. ^o^

However, if both parties have good connections (hardware + service) then the distance between Friends means less.

Goodluck alls!

Yeah, I hope it gets fixed soon! I've been eager to wifi with my friend when she gets back from her trip. She would be really disappointed if we couldn't wifi, she's been looking forward to this for ages! :(

It doesn't give an error code, all it says is that an error occurred. :(

Yep, it works normal on my laptop. Sadly I have no nearby friends, so faraway is the only option for me. :(

whoa... whoa! Not YET, you mean! Eloise, turn that frown upside down- potential friends will be disappointed. =)

Haha, thanks, maybe in the future. All my friends are just interested in makeup, dates etc, while I'm into video games. They're missing out on so much!

Happens to me when I have over 2 people at once usually I can last a good 10 minutes with 3

You're essentially hosting a connection when you try to do online sessions such as visiting towns. That means not only must your internet connection be sufficiently fast, but also sufficiently stable. This means ZERO packet loss and very low jitter.

I think you want AT LEAST a B rating if not better. If you can't connect at all and you have a B or higher rating, your router may have built-in firewalls/protections.

It is Nintendo's GARBAGE servers most likely. My Internet is used CONSTANTLY with online gaming, regular Internet browsing, HD video streaming, and works perfectly. Yet, this game just reeks at using WiFi-dependent functions.

I get the error even when there are no visitors and I was just earning my bells on my island!!! T.T
Are you using Club Tortimer? That's using wi-fi connection.

There are MANY online video games that don't require anywhere near the capacity that hosting a online connection with ACNL does. For example, with League of Legends, I can play with even hotel internet. It just lags a lot and might occasionally freeze. But League of Legends is a HUGE establishment. It is the company's sole source of income whereas ACNL is just a small puzzle in the overall Nintendo picture. As such, the former is far more robust and, considering its sole purpose is online interactions, completely geared towards pitfalls that one can encounter without incredible internet which includes packet loss and jitter.
