One of the goals of NH is finishing your museum. Fossils, bugs, and fish are relatively easy to find/catch. The art section just really bugs me! I've been a player since mid-May and Redd has only shown up with a statue ONCE! And it was fake. Finding genuine paintings with how little Redd shows up is hard enough, but I have yet to donate a single statue to the museum!
Are you opposed to trading for art here?
The art section is so beautiful... I couldn't wait to get it all from Redd. Especially because he sometimes shows up with fakes only
I buy tons of art as decoration. I don’t mind waiting for Redd because I want to play this game for a long time. I don’t even give Blathers most of my art lol
I've had cranky villagers send me some statues in the mail. Maybe try getting more crankies if you want to get some free ones? I agree though Redd can be harsh rolling into town with only a few real art pieces every two weeks. It's better he has a chance now of having more than one real painting/statue but last time I saw him ALL of his art was fake :/
yeah, i definitely think, given the amount of statues and the rate at which redd shows up (even with the recent update to change the % of NPC weekly visitors) that the museum completion task is one that nintendo intended to take players a long time. sorta like the gold achievement for however many caught fish or diving creatures and the fossils assessed. i think the draw is supposed to be, that you want to continue playing a little each day over a long period of time, lol.
in reality, it is super frustrating.
Even with time travel it took me probably an equivalent of 4-5 years to complete the museum. That was before the update to the NPC schedule so maybe with the recent update it will take 2-3 years if you’re lucky. If your goal is to complete it anytime soon then your best bet is buying or trading for them.
At first it was really annoying to me, but I've realized that it'll keep me working towards something for a long time and hopefully stave off losing interest in playing over the long-haul. I totally get what you mean though, as I myself have only gotten 2 real statues (and 3 fakes, all of which were given to me by villagers). I got my second real statue this past week, the beautiful statue, which I like so much that I haven't donated it yet since I found a place on my island that looks great with it.
Redd has always been rather difficult. I have played ac since the original gc version and i think ive only finished the art section once. i never understood why they made that part of the game such a pain
If you time travel at all you can get Redd over and over by time traveling backwards and forwards. This resets the items he has as well! I did this when I had Celeste and Redd in my town at the same time and my museum's pretty filled out at this point.
Yes, this is definetly frustrating. I don't tt, and I try to get all my painting for my Redd, along with not using a guide. I've only got 5 painting so far, and it truly is a struggle! I would definitely reccomend going and seeing what people on the forum have to trade, though. Good luck to you!
My art section is going to take a while. I have bought art, but only for decorating my house and island. I'm doing the stubborn route and only getting museum donations directly from Redd. I will buy if I'm on a friend's island, but it still has to go through "proper" channels.
Statues definitely seem to be on the rarer side, mainly because he only ever seems to have 1-2 statues max whereas he can have 4 paintings at a time from my experience. So it's rarer that the real one will be a statue.
I've only gotten 2 real statues, one of which is a tiny statue that goes in the glass case.
I think I've only seen one statue out of all the times that Redd has come and visited my island, so I know the struggle. Like others have said, I prefer to buy fake statues for decorating and on the off chance try and grab a real for a good deal. Believe me when I say that trading will save you so much time
It's definitely a drag without multiplayer. It makes sense for there to be a longtime goal in the musem that takes like a year, but as stated above it takes much longer than that. A good change imo would be to have a painting and a statue section and allow one purchase for both.
I finished my museum a few weeks ago by trading for it. Redd came for me only a few times and sometimes only brought me paintings/statues I already had or fakes. If you don't have online or are opposed to trading it's going to take forever to finish the art section!
I went to the art museum for the first time 3-4 weeks ago and was amazed at how many different pieces there are in total. I'm never going to complete it, it made me regret donating the mystic statue as I could have kept it to put on the island somewhere instead.
Redd almost never shows up at my island, and when he does, the statues are ALWAYS fake if he has any. Haven't scored one since he and the art gallery were added!
I could probably fill my art section way faster if I traded more for art, but I kinda like having stuff left to donate after I inevitably finish up the bug and fish sections in a few more months. It's a good long term goal!
I do still use my second character to buy more art though.
Feels to me like they designed art collection to encourage trading. Bug catching, fishing, fossils are all very contained and geared toward solo completion, but art collection could literally take years to solo depending on RNG. Prices have been coming down around here quite a lot since Redd started showing up more regularly on everyone's islands. 10 TBT for real paintings aren't hard to find.
