i'm currently rewatching both fma:b and revolutionary girl utena (if you're into 90s anime its really cool-- if you're not, you'll probably get annoyed). paranoia agent is one of my all-time favorites if you like psychological stuff, along with serial experiments lain! oh and obviously nge but everyone knows about nge

Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood is honestly my favorite anime ever. I think it mixed in comedy, action, and drama elements perfectly together to the point where it was a really good balance （＾∇＾）although I would recommend watching the original before hand.
Most of my suggestions have already been said but some of my other favorites are
*anohana
(first anime to make me cryヽ(；▽；)ノ
*my little monster ~
it's just a nice cute show to watch （＾ω＾）
*one piece or any of the big three
(obviously your not going to like them if your a hipster and they're just 'too mainstream for you' but I think they are still pretty good. Just ridiculously long so you might skip around a lot.)
*Fairy Tail
gonna say that this isn't the BEST anime out there, but i feel it can ease anyone into anime and get you used to it.)
*soul eater
As long as your okay with the art style, this is going to be the anime for you. Lots of action, drama, and comedy like fullmetal alchemist.
*Noragami
This show ended TODAY. and honestly I'm really hoping for a season two. Has an adorable romance mixed in with fantasy and the dramatics of what death can bring.
And that's all I can think of right now XD
