This is perhaps the No 1. feature I?ve been hoping for since before the NH announcement, and I think it would work even better with the new games? theme.
It can definitely be moved into the General Features thread if no discussion arises!

The Concept
Animals can come and visit your Islands for a limited duration

Basically, your Island can receive visitors similar to the campers in NL, except that they stay for several days/weeks and act more like regular villagers (strolling around town, interacting with other residents etc.)

While the default duration of the visit would still be fairly short, several options can open up depending on your relationship:

✦ they can extend their stay
✦ they can promise to visit again
✦ they can settle down permanently

The Benefits
Above all, this feature would allow for lots of flexibility and keep things interesting:

✦ the changing cast of visitors would vastly increase exposure to a variety of Animals
✦ the ?Visitor Slots? would stay open even when the town is at full capacity?making the Island seem livelier and less static
✦ the option of returning visitors would allow us to keep Dreamies in rotation?instead of having to choose between only a few

✦ visitor-specific dialogue, actions, events, mini games
✦ sending invitations to come visit again to previous Visitors
✦ building a campsite, beach house and/or wood cabin to unlock Visitors

How would you feel about a feature like this?
Would it change how you play the game or plan your town?
Are there any specific Animals that you?d like to have as ?returning visitors??
Did I spend much too much time on this thread and should probably find something better to do with my Saturday night??? lol

I don't remember what interview but they said, or more like implied, there was a "system" of sorts to invite villagers to live on your island.

My assumption was pretty similar to yours in that they would show up as a tourists occasionally and you could ask them to move in if you wanted.

This is a really interesting concept here, I really like this idea here the most:

Most of the time, I have that feeling that my town isn't so alive as I hope it would be, mainly
because you only have your villagers as well as here and there a NPC that is coming to your
town. It would be cool to have villagers visiting your town even if you reached your limit on
the amount of villagers you can have, just as simple visitors. You can talk with them and then
they go home again to their town after a certain time. Not only you meet more villagers, your
town also feels more alive and there is much more to do. I would love it if they gonna do
something like this in NH.

this would allow rotating dream villagers and that would be so soo nice!! id kill for that.

I’m glad to see other people like the idea!

Being able to befriend a variety of Animals would really open up the game imo. Of course we could before as well, but it was so rare for campers to coincide with an open slot in town, and they really weren’t able to do much (only staying for a day, confined to the tent). Wouldn’t it be cute to show them around town, maybe bring them places and unlock more activities as you get to know them?

Additionally, I’d enjoy a bit of a challenge in getting them to settle down on your Island. Maybe sometimes they’d agree after one visit, but others would require multiple trips, or letter correspondence. It would be fun to have to “woo” them a bit. lol

Yah I think that’s actually very likely, but I would love for the mechanic to be a bit more detailed than just that.

May I also expand upon this idea?

Maybe the visitors aren't frequently visiting the island. But, what may raise the frequently? Simple: Tourist Traps. Basically stuff you can build and place upon your island.

Many a visitor could flock to your island in order to glance at the traps and take a picture or two of it. The more Tourist Traps you've have, the more you've got visitors visiting your island.

Yeah, kinda a dumb idea, but it's the best I've got at the moment.

haha this is a cute idea! it's like public work projects but more attraction based! if this was implemented, i'm afraid it might ruin the game's relaxing vibe because some people would spend all their time trying to build tourist traps and get a bunch of visitors instead of focusing on their island.... idk tho

Of course you may?and I don?t think your idea is dumb at all! In fact, it sounds like a really good addition to me. Donellcrossing has a point, but I think that risk could be easily avoided by adjusting the concept a bit:

What if it?s more like the perfect town rating, where it takes the overall appeal of your Island into account?
That way people can naturally develop their towns by expanding services and landscaping, instead of being pushed to focus on tourist traps alone. There could still be tourists traps to build, they?d just be one of the options, not the only one.

So, it would be like, “I heard Coco island is the place to be after you started developing it, so I came to see how much it was coming along”

A little prompt comes up

It’s coming along...
I’m glad you came!

Prompt one answer would be something like this, it varies on the villager type
Sheepish laugh emote“A bit unsure, huh? Well don’t worry too much, I’m sure you’ll do great”

Prompt two answer also varies on villager type
Nod emote “if I like it, I may even consider living here”

You have roughly a week to see if they’ll stay, days 6th or 7th being the finalization if they stay or not. (You could even bribe them with fruit or something to make them stay)

Oh I would love a feature like this! It would make things so lively and interesting. I hope they implement this or something similar to this
