Back in my first town, when I started using the megaphone, I noticed I could get all my animals to answer me except Blaire and Marcel. The latter was easy to figure out, as Marcel is clearly a French name, so I tried to say "Magsel" and sure enough, he answered. Blaire was harder, it happens to be either Scottish or French according to Google, so pronouncing it following the English language rules didn?t work out, I looked up the actual pronunciation here and it seems that the developers decided she would be French.

So now I have taken a thing about finding out what the true nationality of each animal is, based on the pronunciation of their names and some of their trivia. Some of them will be obvious, some impossible, but it?s an interesting thing, especially since it helps a lot when you are trying to find them using the megaphone. Please let me know if you have noticed any of this and have any info on the matter. I?ll list the ones I?ve tested with a link in their name to the pronunciation that seems to work.

Blaire: French
Katt: Swedish or Norwegian
Marcel: French
Ozzie: US

I tried everything. English names and Japanese ones (who knows the way the game is programmed, right? Maybe the original names could be recognized).
But every time I pronounce a villager's name, Kapp'n answers me.
I eventually gave up the megaphone :(

Whenever I use the megaphone to call Pinky, I would then get a message saying that nobody's nearby, even when she's in my town. It doesn't help that when I try to pronounce her name normally, I still get the same message. But there was one time where I tried different ways of pronouncing her name with the megaphone, and the one that seemed to work the most was "ponky". It's ridiculous, but I thought it would be interesting to mention.

I still don't know how I have to pronounce "Cube" in order for him to answer me, lol. Every time I do this, a random villager answers. :( I pronounce it like "cube" would be pronounced, but he doesn't answer, so I started placing the accent randomly on the e or even the c or the b, but nothing.

Have you tried saying 'Choona' instead?

I've tried everything, lmao. But well, I can try saying "Choona". I mean, it's not like I'm desperate to see that he answers when I call him, because I don't really use the megaphone, but it'd be cool if he really answered, lol.

Knew a guy who got "Keuu-bay" to work a few times

I say A-POLO, instead of A-pallo, since that never works for Apollo.

I can usually get the villagers to answer, but Kapp'n always thinks I'm calling him too! He's like 'Yarr?!' It's like, I wasn't calling for you!
Anyway, I usually just start stressing random letters and hope for the best, haha. It would be really interesting if in the future the animals' cards had their nationality. haha, for the next game's title.. animal crossing: across the globe... you could choose your game's climate

I have a hard time calling O'Hare and Agnes with the megaphone ^^; Sometimes it seems to help a little if I pronounce a name the way a villager would...

Ozzie's name like most of the koalas and kangaroos is actually a reference to Australia

I've never even realized what the megaphone is for before readimg a few similar threads on her. That's super cool though! I think lolly is French too because her catchphrase is bon bon which is French for candy i think. I would like to try this out though! I wonder if Pietro is Italian lol.

Yep, I thought so too, but I also think their nationalities is not tied to their species as in not all the animals from the same species come from the same country. When I looked it up, while its actual origin is North European countries (Oswald) the name is most common in the US and when I called him using the US audio he answered, so I went for that one.
