I found this helpful tutorial that may help some of you (i'm not 100% if you can post videos)

If for whatever reason you can't view the video, i'll do my best to describe the steps.

If you know you are due a villager from the camp or a friend or even just under 10 villagers this is a helpful trick:

  • When starting up your game DO NOT press continue, start a new character. This trick will not work if you have opened your save file that current day
  • Make your new character (it really doesn't matter how it comes out unless you intend on keeping them).
  • Go around your town to find the plot roped off by the future villager.
  • If they're in a position you disagree with, press the home button and then the X to close the game down.
  • Do these steps 'till either you find a placement you like or for the villager (if just randomly moved i.e under 10 villagers) to disappear until another day.
  • When happy, Continue with the rest of the new character's set up and save which will save the plot position.
  • Load in as the new character and tell Isabelle "I need help first.." and demolish house (skip this step if you want to keep your new character) DO NOT WORRY the plot will still be saved if you choose to delete the character.
  • You can now load in your main character and continue your mayoral business.

When i stumbled upon this video, it helped me soo much so i thought i would spread it around. The video, as well as the steps, can make it seem that it's easy but let me tell you, it isn't. It has taken me from minutes to hours and at the worst, days (when i couldn't be asked to play) but i don't want this to discourage anyone, this trick helps a lot. Everyone will have a different experience, don't give up.

I hope i helped ^-^
