Topic??: Animal Crossing and LGBTQ

I have been looking into this more and more recently. I have the game for years and now that I've become aware through my own experiences and others that Nintendo has been very open to the LGBTQ community. They've made it possible to be flirted by villagers regardless of gender, dress however you want no matter what etc.

I, personally as a trans nonbinary man, I think this is an amazing thing. I was young when I first made my town so I had no clue about my gender or sexuality and am still going through the turmoil now. I always play as female characters because of the outfit and hair choices, and I truthfully regretted making my acnl mayor a female under the assumption that i could not wear male clothes without being called out by my villagers or simply wear male hairstyles. I refused to restart my town due to the pathing and progress I had made, I used to constantly restart and, after a while, I had settled on the lovely town of New Calt that I own to this day.

What are your thoughts on Nintendo's progress on diversity?

I think it's a wonderful thing that Nintendo did when creating this game. Your animals will support you no matter what you wear, and I just think it's very heartwarming and how things should be.

Yeah. I used to swear that Colton and Jacques flirted with me more than any other villagers, even other smugs. Then I realized I was probably just attracted to a horse and a bird. Then I saved the game and took a long walk...lol.

wUt the same gender villagers will flirt with my girl character? I need to make better friends with the girls I've never seen this happen.

Back when I had New Town, I had a mayor who basically cross dressed at times, I would make her look boyish alot, boy hair, bot clothes ect... Francine would make fun of my blue cap, but she does that with everyone. She's just jealous she can't pull it off:cool:

I know it's stated that Isabelle will have a crush on the mayor regardless of gender, and I think that's pretty cool. Also in New Horizons they are no longer making hair gender locked, which is even better.

I think it's great, because to me, it's all natural, and nintendo are openly embracing what has been since the dawn of time.

Everything is out in the open today. Nobody has to hide. Nobody should be ridiculed for being who they naturally are.

We are all people, no longer defined by gender, but by who we are inside.

Pietro gave it away. ;-)

I do not remember my times before the amiibo update, but other forums said that the villagers would talk about your choice of fashion. i.e. getting a bee-sting was considered boyish, this was changed with the amiibo update, however. along with that, I've recently started embracing my gender even through my video games so I've begun making my mayor look more boyish and wear the male clothes minus qr code shirts. i went to Reese to get my hair done since i time travelled and she stated " you know you would look cute in boy hairstyles" i have no clue if this was due to my outfit choices or not but it made me extremely happy.

Oh yeah Harriet will say that once you unlock getting hair options for the opposite gender, but it is nice how she says that our players will look cute with a boy hair style too. Mable also says somethin similar when our girl characters wear boyish clothes as well.

It's cool they're being so open about it in the games. Though I feel like they should just not have women's or men's clothing. Just keep it all gender neutral. I do find it annoying to pass by the dialogue at the clothing shops when they say "it's from the men's collection but it would look fine on you anyday" lolol. Eitherway though, I like how they're including it!

I do wish the female villagers would flirt with me. I only get the male ones. I guess that's just a smug villager thing considering a lot of them are male (if not all).

As I'm from the community, I like to see how open the game is! And I like that in ACNH we'll be even more free concerning customization!

Also Nintendo as a whole is definitely a LGBTQ+ friendly company! I really like how they make it clear that they support us no matter who we are, as seen on this link!

Nintendo, open for LGBTQ people? They told us that gay marriage was an glitch in Tomodachi Life and you can't dress the opposite gender's clothes in Pokemon X/Y, Sun/Moon and Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon.

though all very true and made me upset because i play both games, it's easy to work around those things. along with that nintendo wouldn't have put these features in animal crossing if they did not have a reason. I just think it's logica to look at both sides of the coin, nintendo probably put this in because of the fans and probably kept it out of the other games for a different reason most likely coding.
