an embarrassing discovery!

(more embarrassing than the fact that i'm never sure how to spell "embarrassing"!)

i thought my bug exhibit was complete this whole time, but only a few days ago i discovered it's not!

this is because i went to blathers to get fossils assessed (my fossil exhibit is full, but if i can i like to get them assessed so i can sell them for more money) and i accidentally selected "make a donation." i was surprised when blathers just went with it. i thought he would just tell me i have nothing to donate. the only thing i could select was my mole cricket, so i just chose to give him that to see what happened. he said he'd put it in the exhibit. that made me wonder if i was missing bugs, or if blathers just started accepting doubles. i looked at the exhibit list and matched it with the bug list on the acnl guide app on my phone.

turns out, i never brought a walking stick to the museum! (or a mole cricket, until that day) i'm pretty relieved that it's just one common bug i'm missing, but now that i'm actively seeking it i never see it on the island, or on tours that let me catch and keep bugs (e.g. gardening, hide and seek).

i checked my fish/sea critter exhibit too. i'm not missing anything there. i know my art and fossil exhibits are complete because if they weren't there'd be big noticeable empty spaces.

moral of the story is to just make sure your exhibits aren't missing anything if you think they're complete!

The guide helped me too, for me it was the pill bug. Once I finally figured it out then finally caught one then finally got the museum model, I then had to figure out where to put it in my carefully decorated house. This game exacerbates my OCD something fierce. I’m doing a new town now and am going to attempt plot resetting with Vivian today so wish me luck.

That has happened to me before. Since some bugs and fish are so common I think that I'll have already donated them, but one time I noticed how I hadn't donated a common one before

Yeah, I'm not even attempting to complete my encyclopedia. In my last save file, I spent an hour and a half trying to catch a mole cricket for someone in the dead of freaking winter. Not going through that again. That thing can stay buried.

The last bug I caught in this town was the cicada shell, and that’s only because I forgot I hadn’t already caught one XD

in my oldest town I didn't know you could donate things to the museum, so I started doing that, a couple months later, I was donating something and realized I never donated a sea bass. A SEA BASS, HOW DO I FORGET A SEA BASS, I have never forgotten that 4 years later

Thanks for the chuckles! Question: would you know if your museum is complete if the museum model is in your catalog? I can't remember if I ever got the museum model...have to go check that...nope, no museum model...uh, oh...

omgosh! I have been assuming for a long time that my museum was complete. So far I have found missing: 4 bugs (including ant and fly, can you believe it?), 2 fish that I catch all the time (not sea bass, though, lol), and a red king crab! Who knew?

Next I will be checking fossils...almost afraid to...not really, just another thing to conquer (ie, accomplish) in the ACNL world, Yay! Off to catch some bugs and fish...

PS Went diving for the red king crab and got one!; also 3 spider crabs, a snow crab and a lobster. I was watching for big fish at the same time cause I need a football fish. Didn't catch one yet, but got an oarfish, a red snapper and a coelacanth! (It's raining...) 63,500 IGB

That happened to me!
I was certain my museum was complete, as I kept a list that I checked off.

My encyclopedia was full, so I checked it against the museum's list, and there were four fish I hadn't donated that I was sure I had.

Luckily, they were island fish. ^_^

I have basically given up on ever completing the museum. I cannot for the life of me catch a mole cricket, or the tarantula and scorpion. It's just above what I can do. For fish I'm only missing the saddled bichir in my encyclopedia, but apparently I didn't donate whatever is on that corner small tank near the isopod...

Use headphones for mole crickets, it’s the only way. And the tarantula and scorpion are kind of like a tiger beetle, so if you’ve caught that then you can catch them... A lot of trying and eventually a little luck, trust me, if I did then you can too.

I don't have headphones that are compatible with the 3DS, I believe... D:
The biggest difficulty with these it's that there so hard to spawn and find, and when you do, it's very hard to get the net, swing and get it all at once. I was knocked out twice, saw them suicide one and that's it, never saw them again, even if playing daily on summer nights for 4 months. o_o
