Ive been thinking a lot recently. About what video game is my favourite ever. Until today i had no definitive answer. And while i still dont, i have 2 similar games that i have decided are my favourites.

When i did reasearch to find this out (yes i did resaerch for this it sounds silly shut up) i took 4 factors into account:

Genre
Playability
Story/characters
Enhancing factors

The genre is a big deciding factor. My favourite genre by far are platformers. However, 2 of my favourite games are FPS's (TF2 and Portal 2), and i also like FPS's. RPGs and sandboxes are the other genres i like. Taking that into account, games came up that met these factors. Only a few, however met the other factors. A couple of games came combining these factors, which i will explain later.

Playability is another factor. I have played many games which are unplayable, but most are playable. Having good controls, Being a fair difficulty, and of course being fun are three factors that are important to a game being playable. Being replayable is also a huge factor.

The story and characters affect things variably. For RPGS story and characters are vital, whereas it is less so in platformers and multiplayer FPSes. When analysing some games, a few games came to mind that werent RPGS with good stories. These can be few and far between though.

Enchaning factors is last. This is what i like to consider as the music, graphics etc.
While many games have had great music, finding ones that met the above factors was difficult. Graphics wise, i did not care much, bur for me games with stylised visuals are better looking for me.

So theres my 4 factors on what makes a video game fun. I grouped all 4 together.

What video game that i have played is:
A genre i like
Has good controls
ffair difficulty
Fun
Has a good, gripping story
Has funny/emotional characters
Great music
And cartoonish, stylized graphics.

I found it. While a few games meet these factors, i found 2 games that were my favourite. Both from the same series, no less. A game i replay a lot as well.

THE FIRST 2 BANJO KAZOOIE GAMES.

Banjo-Kazooie/tooie are games i can safely say are my favourite games. I laughed at it a lot. The story in tooie was funny. The games were fun. The music, god damn the music is so great. A platformer, but tooie has fps elements as well. Not to mention the stylized graphics.

So, i hope you liked my analysis. I am trying to work on my analysis skills, so even if you dont care, this was more for me. I just wanted to share the results with y'all.

I think i might just play it again. I play both games, in sucession once a year. I have tried to speedrun Banjo kazooie and finished it in about 7 hours (slow by speedrun standards, fast by most other standards).

Share your thoughts on my analysis please. I need cnstructive criticism!

Your head is in the right place; you seem to know that an analysis is fundamentally breaking down content to understand it better or reveal something new about it; you devised a structured criteria. But what you need to improve on is your objective reasoning and elaboration skills. Analyses are really not about opinions, and aren't opinions, even though you can use an analysis to reach an opinion. In an analysis everything you claim or reveal should be backed up by evidence. This doesn't necessarily mean you need a fact, because some things are subjective, but you do need something that validates your point of view. For example, you said "the game has a good, gripping story" and the music is great. You need to "prove" it, meaning think about elements of good stories: good pacing, dynamic characters, mood, suspense, etc. then give examples from the game that exhibit each element that makes a story good to you. For example you could say it's good writing because entertaining stories provide suspense. In BK you're always aware Gruntilda is watching you, so she's ever-present and gives the player incentive to keep going because you don't know what she'll reveal or do next and the writing leads you to expect more.

As for elaboration, you need to explain yourself. If you say it's funny, tell why. Give examples of things you found funny.

Good job though and hope this helps! They're definitely some of my favorite games too.
