I have an idea for a challenge that would allow those of us who cannot afford a second cartridge or who don't want to reset to be able to play a challenge. I'd like to run the basics by everyone and get some input on how it can be made better and if anyone is interested in participating.

It's an Alternate Challenge, as in you will create an alternate character and move into your own town. This character will not be the mayor (obviously) and will simply be trying to live in the town that's been established. You can start any day you like but once you start there is no time traveling. You also cannot use your mayor or other characters to transfer bells to this character. You should have no contact with your other characters so no sending items or clothes back and forth.

They must use the basic options available such as fishing and selling fruit to make enough money to build their house through all of the upgrades and the final payment.

I think one of the great things about this is that you will be starting with whatever upgrades and such that your town already has so it gets you past that initial boredom hump of starting a new town but still gives a challenge to the game and also allows you to share an experience with other players.

If anyone has some ideas to flesh it out a bit and make it more interesting please let me know! Or, if it sucks, well, at least I tried :)

I like this idea very much. I have an alternate "storage" character in my town, and it would be nice to play her as a primary character.

I don't know if this fits the rules of the challenge, though, as she HAS gotten many items from the mayor character. (As I said, her purpose is storage). For your challenge, would I have to create an entirely new alternate character? I think this should be clarified before the final set of "challenge rules" is put together.

After all, many people might have unplayed storage or pattern alts, but no room to make an extra challenge alt.

Sounds really cool; especially better than destroying the entire town. Too bad I have no room for a second character...I barely have room for my Mayor xD

I've started doing this for awhile (not really) but from now on I will not transfer anything from my mayor character to my second character. Thanks for suggesting this!

Hmmm, this is a really good question. I actually have an alt that I use for gardening and such so I know what you mean.

I would say that for the purpose of the challenge you can use a previously created alt as long as you haven't expanded their house. Any items they currently have, or bells you can put away and just not use them during the challenge.

I'm kind of thinking of doing this as a summer challenge for now, so about three months to complete things. For completion challenges I'm thinking:

Catch all available bugs and fish for the season.
Completely upgrade house.
Place in each fishing tourney/Bug Off during the time frame.

Any thoughts?

I did this when the game first came out. Player 2 completed her own house with money from island bugs/sharks.
I can't try it again since three players live in the town now.

Thank you CrazyCat for the clarification. In that case, my secondary character, Guppy, is eligible for the challenge.

May I ask when the challenge will start, exactly? I'm interested in participating, and would love to know more of the details.
