Amiibo doesn't work?

So I ordered an amiibo off of ebay (it's one of the knockoff ones that isn't insanely expensive). When I scan it at the Nook terminal the villager shows up and says she's on the way to the campsite, but then she doesn't show up the next day. Does it take villagers a while to show up at the campsite, or do the off brand amiibo cards not work for getting villagers to the campsite? In which case I don't know what the point of them would be except for maybe scanning them in at Harv's island.

They show up the day you invite them, and will be gone the next.
So when you're waiting until the next day for them to show up, you're actually missing them.

Amiibo data is only 540 bytes. They are ridiculously easy to reproduce and a person would have to TRY to mess them up. For reference, your avatar is 2,757 bytes, 5 times the amount of information on an amiibo NFC.
