Amiibo camp question: do they reset after 3 tries?

So, I was going to ask Dobie to movie in via his amiibo card today. Unfortunately, early today (and before I scanned him), Wendy asked to move out (which I wanted to). To be clear: I didn’t want Dobie to replace Wendy but rather Marina.

So I scanned Dobie and made his item. After, he went with the whole: your island is full. But instead of making me choose he asked me if I knew of someone leaving with two options to reply: I have or I haven’t. I went with I haven’t bc I figured he’d use Wendy’s lot (which I don’t want to). But considering this is the 3rd time I invite him, and couldn’t get him to move, will this cause to reset?

Im pretty sure they don't reset, if I remember correctly I skipped a day in-between when inviting maple a while back (she was an amiibo)

I tried to invite an Amiibo one or two weeks ago, but as I did not have 10 plots yet I was not able to let them move in after three days. Today tried again and they immediatly went to the service center without giving me any tasks. So mine did not reset.
