Am I missing out?

So I'm pretty early into the game, about where I begin to collect materials to upgrade Nook's shop, and haven't got to Isabelle or a ladder yet. I was worried that I could miss Redd or any other events going on in the update. I heard that Redd comes onto your island and not just the secret beach. Also, is he going to be a recurring character like Saharah and others throughout the year? I also hope that I will be able to complete the Nook Miles + requests with my current status in the game. Of course, I am working on the Nook shop upgrade as well Also, for Isabelle and inviting 3 villagers to my island, do I just go to a bunch of Mystery islands and such? I want to try and find Coco, Marina, and perhaps Raymond.

Anyway, advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Redd will be on the island until he invites you to his ship on his second visit. You are not really missing out.

EDIT: Just remembered, Redd won't even visit until you've donated a large amount of stuff to the museum.

Yep, you go to the mystery islands to find them. For the first 3 villagers, their personalities are locked into Peppy, Lazy and Normal so you'll have a chance to find either Coco or Marina but not Raymond. You'll be able to find other personalities + the original three ones afterwards so don't worry about not being able to get both Coco and Marina initially. Your first campsite villager has a chance of being a smug villager too thus maybe you'll be able to find Raymond from there!

For the 3 villagers you have to invit (and actually you are not obliged to invite them, if you don't invit anyone on the mistery islands before placing the plots and providing the items, the villagers will be randoms ) the personalities are locked : a lazy, a peppy and a normal

Also a thing to note, the first 5 villagers of your island don't have their normal interior houses, they have a basic interior made from wooden. DIYs. If you want a certain villager for your first 5 where the personalities are locked in (Jock, Big Sister, Lazy, Normal, Peppy), keep this in mind.

it's overwhelming when you start! But DONT PANIC!

Firstly, unless you TT, you will not be unlocking things quickly. And you will not be missing out either! Redd visits like Saharah, so you're not missing him at all. I'm uncertain as to whether the museum ungrade is linked to donations? In NL you did have to have given in a certain amount of everything before Redd started to come, so it may well still work that way. If so, you've probably got around 3-4 weeks worth of stuff to give in before you can get him.

Secondly, please don't think you have to 'catch up'. There is a lot of angst around TT versus RL play, both have their perks, but the game is set originally to play slowly, day by day. Take your time and enjoy it! I've been playing since release, and i don't TT out of preference (except backwards sometimes!), and my island is all over the place compared to many others, but that's the charm of it. Things will be unlocked slowly, so there's no need to rush about

Ultimately, you play how you want. If you want everything now, go and TT! If you want a more laid back approach, that's fine as well! I wish we would all respect each others gameplay, but that's life. Everyone has an opinion!
