Hi everyone,

I've been a big AC fan ever since the Gamecube days, however I never really spent a lot of time, or understood for that matter, how all things related to the villagers work exactly. For example, how to tell what type of villager someone is(uchi, jock etc.), moving in/out villagers, trading, buying and selling, etc. And in most recent titles, we have the campsite thing and amiibos and cards. Plus, I wanted to know if the characters were any less rude in NH compared to other games as I find that hilarious. I was hoping that there was a really good tutorial, explanation or resource covering all of this. Or, perhaps someone here like a villager expert could explain things to me! I would be really grateful😊 Thanks!

The villagers are generally nicer in NH. Although I haven't had a Snooty or Cranky villager yet. There is one thing they've done that reminds me of GCN villagers, though, and that's that they'll offer to sell you items, but at inflated prices. Cherry did that to me yesterday and said something after that gave off the vibes of "You seriously bought it for that price?" Lol. I think all personality types try to inflate the prices on what they're selling, but I'm not sure.

Hi!

You can usually tell their personality by just talking to them. They have very characteristic remarks on some things (usually, some more than others; like lazy villagers and jocks). If you're curious about them, check a wikia with a specific villager in mind!

Moving in villagers can be done through island hopping, using amiibo cards or if some villager is in boxes in some other island (friends or users you know). You need an available lot in your island (if you haven't placed one, you must). Be aware that, if you don't ask or bring any villagers by either one of the three alternatives I've listed, a random villager will move in instead.

Trading can be done through the Neighbor Network thread in TBT. People will generally have a villager in boxes, that is, ready to move out. How does this happen? Villagers will, at some point (and randomly, for all we know), tell you that they want to move out. They'll have a cloud over their head, like they're thinking thoroughly about something (you can also tell them to stay, if that's what you want). If you confirm to them that they should leave, they'll be in boxes (that is, the process of moving out), by the next day, and the following they will be gone. Their homes will be gone but the lot will remain there. Whenever they are in boxes you can have people over and they can talk that villager into coming into their island (it usually takes 2-3 times to talk to them to convince them to move into this new island).

You can buy or trade things for villagers. Some people auction them for in-game bells, others trade them for their own villagers or for NMT (nook mile tickets). Keep in mind that a lot of people time travel in game, which allows them to move out villagers more quickly or have them in boxes more quickly, as well.

Yes, villagers are less rude than GCN. I don't think any other game (well, except WW) had mean villagers. They will, however, be kinda rude when you talk to them tooo much (they'll say things like "you... again? Oh okay let's talk, lol"), but nothing more than that. They do get grumpy and are rude to each other, though. I do think villager dialogue is waaaay better than NL and is on par with WW and CF. It's super funny and original.

Thank you for all this information! I've reached where Tom Nook gave me a campsite to put down, but before I do, I want to know about them some more as I am also confused about their function. This kind of ties into my initial question, so I didn't think I needed to start a new thread :giggle:
