I'm making a custom design to use on the sidewalks on my island, and I'm basing it on some of the sidewalks in the actual city of Nara. I can't find the exact reference I used but its like this one, just with a few maroon-ish tiles as well:

I have the basic pattern down, and am thinking of adding gray lines between the tiles to look like concrete holding them in place. But other than that I'm trying to figure out how to add depth to the design and also make it look worn out.

Any help or resources would be appreciated!

I can try to help you and see what I can produce. I'll post my results and depending if you find I'm successful, you can copy it.

Ok, this what I did real quick. I stuck to a monotone palette so I can see all my values.

This was actually pretty hard, lol.

I made the concrete tiles a little smaller so I could add the shadows and highlights. If I count right, it's only 7 colors. Hopefully this helps but feel free to @ if confused.
