Y'know when a villager decides to plop him or herself wherever the he%$ he/she pleases? Then it destroys your road/path/hybrid patch/friends/family/life? This has been plaguing me since the game's inception, but with the introduction of PWs makes it easier to avoid. I want to see if anyone else here employs methods to keep new villagers off no-no zones, or if I'm one of the few, the proud, the brave Ma- people to try to stop their obsequious plans.

My current methods:
1.(obvious) Build PWs near or around places that would be obnoxious for a villager to land. I find lamp posts and clocks to be really useful for this task. The Lamp Sentinel Force has been keeping villagers off my main street since inception.

2. You know a villager is incoming. Using a LARGE but temporary PW to blockade areas. I've found that the fence is really good for this. You are going to lose some grass, but hey, grass grows back, and some annoying villagers are forever. Like seriously, they won't leave. WHY won't they leave?!?! The major downside to this is you can only drop one temp PW at a time so you can only use this for one(important) area. Also, when placing, I try to spread this one out to lower the probability of them moving nearby. For instance, if there is a river nearby, I will put it 4-5 spaces away from the river because a resident wouldn't move that close to the river anyways. Again, I like using the fence for this defensive play, it's large and in charge.

3. Various prayers and rain dances. Pure superstition, disregard this point.

Thoughts:
Has anyone tried putting items down to see if it will blockade an area? I'm not sure if this will stop anyone or if the item will end up in lost and found. This theory is untested and I would like some input here.

Do you have any other methods?

I just restarted my town and I'm still on the approval stage so this doesn't really apply to me. I mean, I can build more houses but I can't right now since I'm plot-resetting for Goldie. There was 1 moment where it was perfect, but I needed to build a bridge so I couldn't have her plot there, and about 5 times where it was really close.

Ah, good point! Adding a temp save file if you don't have 4 will cover some space.

I plot reset so it doesn't really concern me, but yeah it does seem like a good idea. I'll definitely put a big pwp in place when a new villager is going to plot, just to make the chances for them to put it in the ideal more likely

This. You can guarantee that you're going to get a good plot if you do this patiently and correctly. I think that many people though have come up with this sort of idea, this isn't the first time that I have heard of this idea being brought up on this site alone. I have heard rumors that putting down 100 bells in a checkerboard pattern stops villagers from moving in on that area, but I doubt it's true. Good guide though, I don't think we have one that's like this yet.

Any link to a GOOD description of "plot resetting". The first couple google hits did not explain very well...

That might work... certain items the game might not take, like money or tools, so putting a specific type of item might do the job. If I could do it with bells then it would be easy.

I'll just explain it to you. It's really quite simple.

On the day you are expecting to see a sign in town saying that a villager will move in, you make a new character. The most important aspect of this is not to load your mayor at all. Loading your mayor will lock everything in town in place. So you make a new character and you walk through the town looking for the house plot. When you find it you decide if you like the placement. If you do, you go make your house and save the game. If you don't, turn it off without saving and start over.

It's time consuming but you have much more control over the placement this way.

Also this way you can control on who moves into your town because the sign will always say a different villager each time unless you invited them from the campsite or another town.

But can't this also reset your villager? I've used that method plenty of times but if you use it when you ask someone to move into your town can they be accidentally voided for someone else?

it does if you're less than 8 and the random villager is moving in. it does not if you invite someone in, be it the campsite or someone else's town, as well as receiving a voided villager.

I'm posting so I can find this thread later~ My town is new but this sounds like a good idea moving forward
