Just a note about the linked site and all...

The photo you shared is not square. You should make it square and preferably resize it to 32x32 with some software such as GIMP beforehand. You can also use this to split your photo into chunks if you want your design to be larger, commonly 64x64 for placing in your town, although that will eat through your character(s)' design slots like there's no tomorrow.
