I find it fun to visit or trade with people on the forum. It makes the game more interesting than just wandering around town by yourself. You could also try redecorating if some part of your town isn't interesting to you.
Stop playing it like that? I see so many people playing this game in a way that makes it stressful. If you're going for dreamies or a "perfectly designed" town then yes, you are going to throw out the fun or stress-free gameplay the game has to offer. Yes there are numerous ways to play and that is one of them, but if one should take the stressful path then you have only brought trouble upon yourself and have no place complaining about it.
Myself, I set up my paths and then lined it with street lamps or other PWPs. It leads to my the cafe, Re-Tail, my house, etc and that's it. Villagers are free to move in anywhere else in town. This allows me to play the game stress-free, not having to worry about a villager plopping their house down in my way. They move in where they want. I don't have to worry about grass wear either.
Do things you don't do before, set goals for yourself and try to achieve them (decorate an entire house, complete your museums, work on your badges, landscape etc...)
Is there anything at all that you think needs to be improved in your town? If so, make a list and start working on that. If not, maybe invite people to critique your town to get some ideas on what changes you can make? How about finding new villagers, or letting the game take it's course and let some people move out and see which villagers you get? If you really can't think of anything else you need/want to do with your town, it might be time to jot down the date and just TT back to it when you feel like visiting?
Or maybe get a new cart and start over with a new town? I recently bought a second hand cart and am working with the previous owner's town to revamp it That is mega good fun if you can afford it and makes you work with a town that might not be seen as "perfect" from the get go
I felt the same way for a while. I found that creating patterns and utilizing the Dream Suite really makes it entertaining. That way, you can express your artsy side by making clothing/paths, or visiting someone else's towns in dreams to see how they made their town. It sometimes even inspires you to make some improvements to your town! Also, like other people have suggested, it is always fun to play with someone else via local or Wi-Fi connect.
This inspired me to make a personal tumblr for my town. I keep a Dream Diary of the towns I visit, I store all of the patterns that I really like, take really cute screenshots of my villagers and sceneries, and even do some monthly challenges. It's a fun way to connect to the Animal Crossing community as well as see what other players have made.
