AC:NL Flower Cross Breeding! How?

I want to mass produce a lot of cross bred flowers! I have a very vague idea on how to do it and I've been looking at various guides and wiki's, and I'm getting mixed info. The AC wikia says to get purple pansies you need to cross breed 2 red pansies, but Thonky says that to get a purple pansy, you need to cross breed 2 red pansies that came from a blue pansy! <-----Wut?
Can someone do me a big big favour and post an official New Leaf guide with the most efficient way of cross breeding. Thanks!
