Just a heads up, guys, but the game doesn't actually autosave whatsoever during a multiplayer session, despite the icon displayed in the top right. The game actually saves only when someone enters or leaves your island. That's pretty frustrating, honestly.
So here's my little rant, I guess:
Last night, around 11:30 pm, my friend invited me over to her island to catalogue her items (she had dropped 1,100+ items on the ground for an upcoming yard sale.)
When I arrived, another of her friends followed shortly thereafter. I had dropped all my items by her airport so I had space to catalogue, and got to work. By the time I got through two rows of items I was already mentally exhausted and totally zoned out tbh; it's pretty mind numbing to pick up, drop, walk a space, repeat for that many items.
Anyway, fast forward 30 mins; it's midnight and my gf also came over to catalogue items. She brought my friend some bells, which she also dropped by the entrance. An hour-ish passes, and it's around 1:15 AM or so. At this time, the friend that arrived shortly after me disconnected from the session due to their switch dying. This rolledback all our progress to the point that my gf had entered the session an hour and change prior. This was evident by the fact that all my gf's bells were back in her inventory, even though she dropped them as soon as she stepped foot on the island. My progress, on the other hand, was check-pointed at the time that my gf had came over.
Needless to say, we ended up powering through and re-cataloguing the stuff we already did, and then the tons more until around 4 AM, although we periodically left the session so it'd save just incase.
Final thoughts: This isn't new, but it's certainly a pain. This is pretty much why the scams work the way they do though; one player arrives first, picks up stuff, passes their friend the dodo code, after which another player shows up which then saves the damage that the first player had done. At this point, the host can't do a thing about it.
Takeaway, for those who didn't know: Basically, saving doesn't occur until someone leaves or enters the island.
