Christmas is the shiniest season of the year, and it's less than a month away. What better way for Pokemon fans to celebrate than by having a Secret Shiny Santa Swap?

If you'd like to participate, we'll need:

Your Friend Code
Your in-game name
Your "dream" shinies if you have any (up to 6)
The shinies you'd rather not get (up to 6)
Your favourite Pokemon type (up to 3)
Your least favourite Pokemon type (up to 3)
Are you happy for your shiny Pokemon to have a nickname? If you have a specific name, or theme for a name (eg Christmas, Star Wars, Flowers) in mind, we'll need that too.
And your timezone, so we can pair you with someone who is likely to be awake and online at the same time you are!

I will pair people up and PM each person's list (but not the FC) to their partner. That then gives everyone an idea of what to look out for for their partner without revealing who the partners actually are. Let us know when you have caught/hatched the shiny for your partner so we can mark that on the list. Then, on the designated day (a few days before Christmas Day, as people will be busy), we send out the FCs and you guys take it from there. This means that everyone gets to trade the actual shiny.

If the swap hasn't been completed within a couple of days, let us know and "angels" will step in and provide spare swaps. If I haven't heard from you that you have obtained your shiny for the swap, you will be removed from the list. I've done enough swaps like this to know that life happens, people drop out or forget and I don't want someone doing all the work only to find that their partner hasn't bothered. So we'll be needing some "angels" to volunteer.

SV-ed, chain fished, MM-ed shinies are all allowed. You don't get to specify gender, level, egg moves, IVs or anything like that, and if your entire dream list consists of legendaries we might have to re-think your participation. The point of this is not to get a specific shiny, but to get a shiny surprise Christmas present. There are NO GUARANTEES on anyone getting anything from their dream list, but we'll try at least not to give out Pokes on the don't want list. This is meant to be fun, and provide a shiny Pokemon with memories attached of a fun time, not a way for people to fill their shiny want list.

This swap is available to members of TBT and/or USGamers.

TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SWAP, CLICK HERE

Sign ups end at midnight your time on 11th December.
We will start sending out the lists on 12th December and then it's time to GET HUNTING!
Deadline for letting us know you've caught/hatched your swap shiny is midnight your time 17th December.
We will send out Friend Codes on 18th December.
Deadline for trade to take place is 20th December.

If your trade has not taken place by 21st December, let us know and we will provide "angel" assistance to get you your Christmas Shiny.

IMPORTANT NOTE: it would be fine for you to try to find/breed a shiny before signing up, if it worries you that you might not find one in time. If you want to do that, PLEASE LET US KNOW SOMEWHERE ON THE FORM what you have (most of it is text boxes, so you can just add a sentence like "I have already found a Gothorita for the swap" after you fill in the relevant details in any of the boxes). The pairings are going to be done by a human being, not a computer, so we can tailor it all to suit.

Incidentally, even if you already have a shiny for the swap, and have let me know, you are not obligated to send that shiny IF you find something more suitable for your partner. Example: you already have a shiny Gastly for the swap, so I match you up with a partner who would really like a shiny Eevee and their favourite type is Dark. You find a shiny Eevee or a Sneasel before the trades happen. You can choose to send either the Eevee or the Sneasel rather than the Gastly if you prefer. Just so long as you let me know, just PM me.

Might not have to worry about SV-ed shinies for much longer. Nintendo might be patching the trade system, therefore making it encrypted and rendering instacheck useless[makes me sad that one of the creators of the program is happy to see it go]

Oh no! That would be really sad. I suppose having it so easy (relatively speaking) to get shinies could devalue the trade value of shinies, but how many people out of the millions of Pokemon players have access to or knowledge of Instacheck anyway? And it's soooo much better than hacking, which is going to be more likely if Instacheck is stopped. Sad :(

The link isn't working Dizzi. Says it doesn't exist.

---This is a line---

Yeah, it's a shame to see it go, but it did kind of take the fun in getting a shiny the natural way.

Eh.. cloning likely won't go anywhere unless nintendo figures out a way to stop it. Personally, I took part in it once, just to see if it actually worked. Ended up with a clone of my shiny umbreon[which I traded off, likely, for a honedge clone]. Not doing anymore cloning because all that that does is give the cloner powerful pokemon that he/she didn't do any work to raise up.

Won't stop them from claiming that they raised these pokemon up themselves, of course.

edit: and yeah.. your link is broken, dizzi

I have never had any luck whatsoever hatching a shiny, chaining, chain fishing, or any other version of Shiny hunting. As much as I want to join, I know I would fail to provide my partner with a shiny, so I won't enter.

And of course, less than an hour after I say that, I catch my very first shiny. Not even trying to chain or anything. Just a completely random encounter in the winding woods, a Gothorita pops up and sparkles. Just looking at it, I never would have known it was a shiny. I posted a picture in the shiny hunting club thread.

That's me too :(. Have had no luck other than Garbodor.

Signed up... but I'll have to sv most likely, since I don't have the time to do Masuda and my shiny hunting luck has been less than I'd like it to be.

I'm trying via sv for now, but I wanted to go for a back up in case it doesn't work out.

Congrats on your first shiny Mark!

Sign ups are open til December 11th. That's just under 2 weeks away. I'll add this bit of info to the main post here and on the other forum.

I'm going to think about it first. Since that is my first wild caught shiny I am not giving it away for anything. I plan on trying to breed a shiny nincada, since I have two from different countries. Also, it's my second favorite bug type evolution chain.

I didn't mean for you to give away your Gothorita - I was just using Gothorita as an example. If you find or breed a shiny you'd be happy to trade, please do sign up. Or sign up anyway - you'll have another few days to carry on hunting after sign ups close, and if you don't manage to find another shiny for trade we can just remove you from the list. This is meant to be fun, so please don't worry too much. I just want to avoid lots of people signing up and then only a handful following through, you know?

I signed up! Yaaaaaaay for awesome shinies!

Yay! We now have 8 participants and a couple of undecideds. This is going to be fun!

I signed up! I'll try to catch Pokemon, but I'll probably use the SV method because I've never had much luck with the Masuda method. Oh well. A shiny is a shiny, isn't it?

I'm still trying to figure out where people are getting the "There's no rare shiny values" thing from.. because mine seems to be rare as hell compared to some. Afterall, some people can breed out 3 or 4 shinies within an hour, while others have to a week or more between shinies when breeding for them; which tells me that some SVs ARE rarer than others.

My 3372 seeming to be one of the rarest of all.

Think about it this way:

You roll a 4096-sided dice. The likely-hood of rolling that number is low, but no lower than rolling any other chosen number. Some people just get lucky and roll the right number.

I guess it works that way. 2080 isn't exactly extremely common, and I have an egg that has an SV of 91. Have you seen someone with that TSV? I sure haven't.
