Okay, lemme tell y'all a story.....
I got the game a month ago (yeah, super late, I know) and poured like 60 hours into it. My village was perfect. I loved how the town hall was right next to Re-Tail with plenty of space to plant one of the cherries Isabelle gave me. I loved the steady angle the river went across the map. I love how Sydney put her house near the bridge, I loved how Phil's house was a few squares away from mine, I just loved all of my villagers. I had a digital copy, though, and to acquire such a copy I had to upgrade my 2 GB SD card that came with the system 6 years ago to an 8 GB sketchy SD card that my dad bought in Mexico. After a MONTH of using said card, it gets fried and all the data I moved there is no longer accessible. And you see, I can deal with losing my old flipnotes, I can deal with losing my badge collection, heck, I can deal with losing my save file in Majora's Mask, but the I've been mourning (aka crying over) my lost town for the past few days. I plan on restarting and bargaining my favourite villagers back, but for now I'm still really bummed out. RIP Paravill, Feb 15th.- March 11th.

Wew, that felt great to type. Anyone have a similar story? I bet there's people out there who have lost much more than 60 hours...

Aw, man, that sounds terrible, I'm so sorry!

That never happened to me but there were times when I reseted my town and deeply regretted it. But it'll pass. And yeah, I find these forums great for letting out steam when something like that happens to you, when I first created this account it was for that exact purpose haha

What were your villagers? I'm sure people in here will gladly help you get some of them back, and I have Phil in my town so I can give him to you when he moves out if you want him

And if there's anything else I can do to help, just say it!

How horrible!! I just started about 1 month ago too and have read about losing or corrupting data and I can't say I am not afraid it'll happen to me too. Have you started a new town yet? I don't have any of the villagers you mentioned in the post but if there are others that I do, I can let you know when they are moving.

oh noooo! I'm so sorry :c it's always devastating to lose something you've poured your heart into.
and don't feel bad about starting late, I did too.. well sort of, I bought the game in the later half of last year

I'm kind of bad at advice (I'm only good at listening xD) but all I can say is take a little break before restarting to refresh yourself.

As someone who has lost save data on THREE separate occasions (faulty cartridge, has since been replaced), I know how you feel. Like.. it's not as bad as one would think, but then you remember that the progress you've made happens in real-time.. so all that time invested is just.. gone. Weeks of progress, never happened.

I know just how you feel let me tell you a story about my town lilac.

Lilac was my third town after restarting, it was beautiful and was almost done I had it for almost about a year. I had all my villagers I had my public works projects my house was complete inside and out. I spent a lot of time working on it and it was just ready for a dream address when one day. The most terrible thing happened unimaginable. I had started up my game everything was swell and then I decided to check on my other game. So I took the game cartridge out put the second one in and checked on that town everything was good. Save and quit and then put my first cartridge in my 3DS went to load up my game only to find out my data was corrupt. I do not know how it happened because I saved before leaving the first time. I frantically searched the Internet to see if there was a way I could fix it. But after doing some research and asking people on the forum. I found that the tragic news was it could not to be fixed. So I quit for a few days then I came back and made a new town. That was in September and now my new town is called Lotus. It's turning out great and I have to say better than lilac so far. So it wasn't all bad but it wasn't all great.

I'm on my 3rd town due to using the wrong sd cards. Apparently Nintendo customer support recommends the sandisc extreme pro. Not all of them know this.

Oh no that's awful :(

I recently lost mine too due to my special edition animal crossing 3ds with the game pre installed breaking. I had a lot of my items saved in that game, mostly unorderable items and pictures of my favourite past villagers.

i couldn't imagine losing my animal crossing town...i have the 3ds card of animal crossing(i almost never buy digital copies in case my 3ds breaks) its been through 3 different 3ds with it

That's awful! I know I'd cry for days if either of my towns were deleted. I wish you the best of luck with your new town, whenever you decide to start it. :(

I had the same issue back in 2015, except my town literally just disappeared one day, out of nowhere. I was really upset about it and took about 3 days to grieve over it, but after that I made a new town. Granted, it took me a few months to warm up to it, but now my new town is even better than the old one and I'm grateful for it.

But tbh if I was given the opportunity to get my old town back I would definitely take it. I still miss that town to this day and it's been almost 3 years since it corrupted.

My heart truly breaks for you. I had a similar situation happen to my first Animal Crossing town ever on the Gamecube and I was devastated. Even though that game didn't have near the creative opportunities that NL has, I had all the NES games and a lot of rare things that took me FOREVER to get. It really is a blow when those things happen. You spend so much time personalizing and getting to know your town and villagers so when those things happen they hurt. I honestly think I would cry if I lost my town. I hope you start building a new one and I hope it goes well for you!

i'm really sorry about that. try to only get SD cards that are trusted and tested with 3DSes.

thankfully i'm fortunate to never have experienced corrupting, and if i did i can fix it with a backup. most players can't, though.

I'm very sorry that you lost your town. :( I know how you feel, as I had a similar
situation a long time ago. Instead of the SD card, it was the cartridge which had
a weird damage. I still don't know what happened to it, as I'm always handle my
stuff carefully. Anyway, when I tried to start my game, the game crashed just
after only a very short time, I didn't even had a chance to load my town at all.
It was not the DS, as all the other games worked, so it was the cartridge which
seemed to not work anymore. Because of this, I lost my town, as I had no access
to it. I was upset about it a lot, as was very happy with the town I had back then.
I got then a new copy of the game, start a new town and fortunately I found a
good one, however, I was still upset over the lost for a little while. But after all
I was happy again as I start to like my new town more and more.

I wish you good luck with your new town and I hope you never have to experience
something like that again! :)
