That's how I feel. Now, it would be cool to visit a town (or to dream about one) and see 9-10 villagers of the same species walking around, but I like so many different animals that I couldn't limit myself like that.
I unintentionally wound up with all but three deer in my town at one point or another, in my case I didn't really want deer but I didn't hate them so I wound up with this odd combination of amusement and exasperation like "Why did you come here Fuchsia? I didn't even pick another deer from the campsite and you just randomly barge in here to replace Bruce the moment he leaves." It didn't get boring though, I think as long as you have a good balance of personalities then you're fine.
Personally if I was doing a single species town I wouldn't go for deer anyway because they seem like such a common choice for single-species towns, less popular species are cheaper and they can still look cool depending on your preference (I think eagles who aren't Apollo are so underrated, Sterling was worth voiding Bam for no matter what the tier list says).
Funny you should ask because I have an all duck town(well,90% duck...Puck lives there because I ran out of ducks to put there after Drake bailed out on me)called Quackle and I have an all frog town called Newt.I haven't been bored with either town because I have all the personality types represented between the two towns and I still get a kick out of seeing a bunch of frogs or ducks just walking around.

I think someone wanted a one species town and then made a long list with town names included with the villagers, and asked for help on which one they should go with. I'm going to pull that up and edit it in.
As for my opinion, it's interesting, but it's not something that I'm willing to commit to at all. Too much effort, if you go with the unpopular species you're going to never find what you want, they all get autovoided, and if you go with popular ones...well that one's obvious.
I would probably go for an all cat or wolf town but that will never happen as I have other species I love a lot. My town already has four cats and three wolves haha. But yeah I like to have a variety of different animals though I did consider a one species town.
I was working on an all dog town last time, but I found it impossible to get Butch and Mac?.and I dislike Cherry...so I reset. Now I'm going with my favorite villagers from every category?happens to be mostly dogs with a few other species mixed in. I guess I like the variety.
The cats are easiest to do because there are 22 of them in "Animal Crossing: New Leaf." But, there are numerous species one cannot do because there aren't enough of them. (For example, I like the design on the cows. They're not mentioned here often. Tipper, for example, is a Snooty and she looks really good.)
My WW town was all squirrels. It was hard getting them because I hadnt heard of villager move ins. I usually just tried to keep the squirrels as I tried cycling other villagers out. I ended up with Bunnie as my ninth villager before I stopped playing Ww
I dont think I want to do the same in new leaf. I like a variety of villagers
My town is all cats (except Claudia who ruined my whole life).
I don't get bored of it because I love cats and I love them all very much, but I can totally see why someone would get sick of it.
I had one c: It was an all bird town cause like my names Raven & I thought it'd be cute. It didn't get boring to me it was really cute and still in progress when 1 bird, Anchovy, moved out. Theres only 10 birds in the game so there was no one to replace him with & i couldn't cycle cause I had the other 9. He was my fave too so I just reset. To anyone considering an all species, pick one with more than 10 and have backups lol
