A Question About Save Data

Ok. So, I do have a rather.. complicated situation. I will explain it now. It will also demonstrate how irresponsible I am, but.. oh well.

I had a new 3ds xl with a digital copy of animal crossing new leaf. It broke in a way that cannot be fixed, and I basically lost my save data. (which is why I went on a hiatus) However, im not that mad anymore. Anywho, my question is- if I get a new new 3ds xl (sounds weird i know) and I get a digital copy of ACNL on that, then transfer my old SD card into the new 3ds, will my save data be there?

This is something that popped into my head recently. It would be great to know, thanks!

I'd assume no, since digital save data is tied to the 3DS; you'd have to do a system transfer, which would require both the old and new 3DSs to be on. I did find this page which says you can contact Nintendo for help doing this if your old system doesn't work, so I'd try that. Good luck!

i heard digital copies weren't that good with acnl, it tends to break and crash a lot. like above, unless you do a system transfer i don't think the info will be on the sd card. however, since it broke in a way that cannot be repaired, if you're talking about the game then i don't think you can, don't quote me but i feel like all the save data would be lost. i'm just assuming these things, feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.
