There is one thing that I DO want to say before I begin:
I know you people are going to complain and claim "the blog tree." And y'know something? I don't care. It's my thread and I'm going to say what I wish. Either follow along with my progress and post appropriately, or get out. I WILL report you if you don't follow this simple request. As I'm sure some are, I'm FED UP with this mindset that such posts are "bringing TBT down." Thank you for your time.

Anyway, I surfing the web one night, and my little brother called me into our room. I walk in and what do I find?

My little sister -- holding her DS in this condition:

</div>

I don't know how in the hell my little sister was able to damage it this bad, but she apparently did. Honestly, I couldn't help but laugh. But in the midst of it, my first instinct was to call Nintendo. But given the fact that it was late at night, I decided that I would do it the next morning.

That morning, I called up Nintendo and told the rep what had happened. As I had expected, I was told that I would have to pay 85 bucks for them to repair it. I politely declined and hung up.

So I put the wreckage down and took a good look at it. I was pretty sure that there was still some hope left for it. There had to be a cheaper alternative. That's when it dawned on me -- I could repair it myself. HOWEVER, I knew that I hadn't done something like this before. I've never had to actually take things apart and actually get my hands dirty. But seeing the top screen hanging off by that ribbon cable... I just couldn't let this chance pass by.

So with this in mind, I decided to try and keep... a sort of log of my progress. And that's what this thread is for. I hope you guys will enjoy my findings. I know I will. :D

ouch.

good luck w/that, bro

I would offer some advice as to how to fix it if I knew, but I don't :/ what kind of reference are you going to have, since that looks... very damaged?

also, what's up with your sister about this? is she going to wait and get a new one eventually if you can't fix it, or getting it now and you'll keep this ds if you fix it, or..?

INTERESTED, I AM

I will be following a YouTube video that details the entire process of disassembling and reassembling the system. This way, I can make sure that everything is where it should be.

The only part that I'm scared of is resoldering the speakers to the new screen. See, I've never soldered in my life, and I'd probably wreck the thing. But hey, I might as well try. :D

All right, I've identified just about everything I need. After doing a bit of searching on DealExtreme, I'm finding that the total cost for all the parts is significantly lower than what Nintendo wants me to pay them.

Parts
- Replacement LCD screen: about $15
- Replacement case/shell: about $10-$11
- Triwing screwdriver: $1.37

Adding it all up, it's about $26-$27, which isn't bad at all! I've talked it over with my dad, and he seems to agree. It looks like he'll help me order the parts sometime soon, and once I get them, I can officially start the repair process. :D

The soldering is going to a *censored.4.0*. Practice on something else first.
I'm probably going to end up letting my dad take care of that part. He should be proficient in this area.

then you could start your own website that fixes them for 50 dollars instead of 80. youd be rich!
