We've heard of sexual predators using Xbox Live as a means to stalk their prey and threaten the rare school shooting threat made over the Xbox 360 online network. But tampering with a witness sounds like a new one.

According to a report from the New Haven Register, Anthony Hayward of Hamden, Connecticut was arrested on charges of "tampering with a witness, intimidating a witness and two counts of second-degree harassment," all based on messages sent via Xbox Live. Those messages include "I wouldn't laugh 2 much U a dead man walking" and "Rats die slow."

Those threats were allegedly made to a material witness in a case against Hayward, who was free on bail following gun and drug possession charges. Hayward turned himself into police, according to the report, but has not yet posted bail on his latest charges.

I don't see how it pertains only to Xbox Live, you shouldn't be allowed to make threats over any medium.

True. But sadly, it looks like nobody watches over XBOX Live it seems.

There isn't really a way that I can tell, of how to watch every message that's sent etc.

Even so, it's not the first time I've heard of things like this.

we should have to swap our gamertags for missile launch codes. and make it so we have to register each other to send messages.

isn't there a report user function?

i assume that if you report someone, they look into everything

checking every message sent is overkill

i mean, yeah, it's a retroactive method, but atleast people get banned and are kept from doing it again (until they get a new acct, i assume)

No David it wasn't. Not when you've heard for the 20th time.
You seriously have no good to say about Nintendo, do you?

@Run, yeah I mean reporting only does so much. As in when you're reporting you can only pick out reasons why of a set list. Rather than saying why, especially in cases like this with threats.

mmm, there's no option to include a message along with the report?

typically the "select from a list" feature is to filter complaints to make them easier and faster to deal with, but not having an option to write something with it is really...stupid :v

It allows you to report people for being roosters so other people don't want to play with them , but it doesn't allow you to file any sort of criminal complaint.
