Does anything not count as your daily chat with a villager?

For example, if they haven't seen you in a week and you don't get a prompt to ask a question. Or, just asking them if they lost something. Do all these count towards that daily chat?

I just always feel like I have to talk to them again if they don't ask me something or I don't ask them something.

I consider my "daily chat" talking to them 4-6 times, no matter what we say. c:

I don't count pings though.

I talk to the each villager 5-10 times daily, the only one I don't count is pings and if the initial dialogue is asking me where I've been etc.

Basically if they ask me what's up? It counts, if they just launch into dialogue with my options it doesn't.

I play Animal Crossing New Leaf everyday and it's a priority to talk to all villagers 4-10 Times (YES 10 DONT JUDGE) and also talk to Sable (even though I've got the sewing machine), Isabelle (even though I don't have to), and Blathers (to get the museum shop hes not special). I check the campsite etc.

I think that it only counts when it's normal dialogue. When you haven't seen them in a while and get that conversation where they tell you they haven't seen you in ages, it doesn't count. They also can't ping you (as far as I know) if you haven't gone through that conversation, so it's a good idea to have it because they may be planning on moving.
