Should I go and get a 80GB PS3 which will allow Backwards Compatibility for PS2 and PS1 games such as the Ultimate Alundra 1?

Discuss.

Shouldn't this be in Gamers Lounge?

Talk about other things that are unrelated to The Bell Tree, Animal Crossing or videogames. The topic is up to you!

Yes, yes it should.

But I require backwards compatibility for the Ultimate Alundra game...

I need to know if it's possible from someone that has a 80GB PS3.

"This is only currently true in Europe. The PS3 being sold in Europe does not contain the PS1 or PS2 components that the North American model has. Backwards compatibility for PS1/PS2 games in Europe is handled with software emulation and will require periodic fixes and updates.

Backwards compatibility in North America is very high because the PS3 actually contains the chips from the PS1 and PS2 inside. However, starting with the new 80GB model, Sony will be removing these chips and using software emulation in North American models."

There, that is the answer to your question.

I don't know if the 80GB PS3 can play PS1 games but wouldn't be possible to download them from the PSN store?

Which 80GB? Mine had it, and it was one of the Metal Gear Solid bundles.

@Jason: See if you can luck out with a American PS3. The games aren't region locked, but you might be stuck with having to use the American Playstation Store. And you can access it via PS3 and I think the Media Go, which I haven't seen for sale anywhere.

So you're not buying it because, you can't have one game that's not even that great. Even though there's a wonderful library of modern games.
