I adopted Rolf and he came with an annoying outfit (just one). I've given him around 7or 8 outfits so far. If I exceed 24, will the annoying outfit be overwritten?

It will eventually. The closet you can get to a clean state is to gift him whatever his default outfit is 24 times. Eventually the annoying outfit will get pushed out and you'll never have to see it again. Do note that it's possible that he might display his default outfit in his house if there's an valid spot for it. See the replacement guide for details.

Nice guide. Can't say I've tried this method yet myself, but it certainly looks useable.

I'm not trying to restore a house, but changing one. Is it possible to swap out an item with placeable surfaces for another of the same size without clearing the items on top first?

And if you gift someone 24 of their original clothes, will they start displaying those in their house everywhere?

This is very useful info - thank you! I would like to restore Raddle to his default clothing and house without losing his friendship (he calls me 'friendo' ☺) so I will try this process out

Does anyone know how to get them to stop picking Able's custom designs? I replaced everything there with hats and they still chose to wear them on their own. None of the other clothing types seem to do, either.

I think they will wear any design from the back wall in able’s that is not one of the default designs. I know I have not replaced any of mine and my villagers have never worn custom designs.

pretty nice guide, unfortunately i keep gifting whitney stuff of the right dimension that she has 2 spots for and each time she chooses the wrong spot >.<. i just can't get the anatomy model i accidentally gave her out of the house

Damn it, I had a feeling I should not have replaced those! I may have to make do with some meme designs because I can't have everyone running around in straw hats. 😭

If you want to swap out any of the existing furniture in a villager's house you are to determine:
  1. Is the furniture's category "Fixed"? See Villager's default houses
  2. Is the furniture you are trying to replace with of the same type? "Base_Desk", "Base_Table", "Base_Display", etc. See Furniture Replacement Guide
  3. The new furniture must of the same dimension
  4. Is the new furniture seasonal? See Furniture Replacement Guide
If there are multiple furniture with the same type and dimensions, you might swap one of those out instead. Like the Zucker example in the main post. The Furniture Replacement Guide is your best reference even though it's really confusing. Swapping out default furniture with one of your choosing is very hard cause there's a lot of conditions you have to meet.

It's very likely if a villager with an original house and an unoriginal wardrobe to place the default clothing you gifted them in their house. If there is "NnpcRoomMarkerFtrFloor1x1", it will go there. I'll update the main post with this.

Updated main post with exception. It was very late when I wrote this and I forgot about the empty slot markers.

Is the anatomy model in the "NnpcRoomMarkerFtrFloor1x1" of her house? The empty slot markers can have any furniture of the same size in that location and furniture overflow won't be able to get rid of it. If that's the only thing that's wrong with her house, I would give her a floor lamp or some potted planted (that can't go on a surface) to get her to replace it. Other option is to gift her clothing you won't mind her wearing or displaying in her house. I've done with Diana. There's an empty spot in her default house right next to her bathtub. I gave her a Rattan wardrobe to fill that spot, she replaced it with the next clothing I gave her, and I gave her a wardrobe and she replaced the clothing item and now she wears it occasionally.

You can find someone that made a custom design you like or commission someone to make custom designs and have them hang it up in your able sisters.

Thanks so much for those sources! Those are incredibly useful. The furniture replacement guide is indeed a little confusing but I know my way around code so I'll manage, no problem ^^

So far, everything I see on the guide and house viewer makes perfect sense, based on what I've seen my villager do with the items I gifted him. I would never have gotten him to replace all of the items without this though. How else was I supposed to know to give him a kitchen item with a food item on top? This will make figuring out which items I want to send him very very easy! I'm so excited right now!

It also looks like a few of my villagers are blessed with houses that lack the NnpcRoomMarkerFtrFloor1x1 marker, so I guess I'll start flooding them with clothes now since they shouldn't be affected :D

THANK YOU!!! Finally now I can push out Audie’s ugly clothes. Will this work with hats too?

It should work with hats. As far as I know, any clothing is considered to be clothing. You cannot get them to get rid of their default clothing both the regular clothes and their two sets of workout clothes.

I can't look it up now but Audie might have 1x1 free slot so she will end up displaying one of the muumuu dresses you give her. Which might not be the worse thing in the world cause I think she has a beach shack/boardwalk vibe house.

Bleh, I really just wish there was an Isabelle gift reset button

This is a really great guide, thank you. I have the same issue as above with Audie's clothes. Purrl has also been giving an absolutely horrendous beige "skull tee" by Bob and she will NOT take it off, lol. It does not fit her colors or personality at all! I've been wishing that I could do something to fix it and now this offers that opportunity.

Alright here's a bunch of changes I have made so far today. Note to self, don't write guides at midnight.

- Update wardrobe restoration with details of clothing might be put on display in the villager's house
- Update furniture restoration with details about "NnpcRoomMarkerFtrFloor2x1", "NnpcRoomMarkerFtrFloor1x1"
- Update general guide on restoring furniture by order of category
- Add note about villagers displaying multiples of a item when it has been gifted once.
- Fixing typos and clearing up my wording.

Quick question:

When gifting villagers cloth items, will they only place it on the 1x1 markers that were originally free (even if they are already filled by something you gave them), meaning they don't replace any of their original "None" category items, or is there a chance they replace those too?

Thx in advance!
