Not sure if theres been a thread on this but do people believe a "5 star island" means a fully terraformed fully decorated beautiful island?

Pretty sure I got to 5 stars with half my island unfinished/full of weeds just by placing enough furniture and fencing around to make Isabelle happy : O

Anyone else have a similar experience in getting to 5 stars?

The bottom left portion of my island has absolutely nothing on it. It’s completely empty and I have a 5 star island. I believe you just have to meet certain criteria, such as having X # of trees, bridges, etc.

There is a score for your decorations where each flower, fences, tree and furniture you put give you points. It's on the guide book. I'll search for the thread.
So you totally just cheese the score. I saw someone putting like 40 ducks down and getting 5 stars.

Yeah exactly! Thats why I find it weird to see 5 star island used as a way to describe someone's finished island? Bc u can get to 5 stars way before you're done decorating

Clutter

Clutter is gauged in the same 8x8 tile division as furniture grading. There are a total of 64 spaces available in every 8x8 block, and if 45 or more tiles are covered, the block will be considered cluttered. Buildings, bridges, buried items, rocks, cliffs, rivers, and inclines will not count toward clutter.

Littering

If there are more than 15 small items dropped on the ground (not placed as furniture), your island will be deemed messy. Seashells, tree branches, stones, mushrooms, and star fragments don’t count toward your island’s messiness, since these occur naturally in the wild.

I was under the impression that the grid on the map was relevant, so I placed 3-4 DIY per square and throw some fencing occasionally. But I know there's ways to dupe the rating, I just have no interest in it

Well, what Bioness said, and I think it's so stupid bc people lost rating for putting stuf on tables or having to many trees but their island is still perfect :/

The tree thing really surprised me I think my sister had isabelle tell her there were too many trees! Kinda whack

Thank you for posting that island evaluation breakdown. I've not seen that before.

As for the 5 star thing, it means nothing to me.

I unexpectedly reached 5 stars while half my island was unfinished and I had a mass of flowers covering the northern half. Since then, I've improved it no end, creating several points of interest, terraforming, and decorating as I go...and it's now 4 stars because I have too many trees.

Given that it's supposed to be a woodland island, it's going to stay that way, whether Isabelle likes it or not!

I've got my two lily of the valleys to remind me of my time in the sun!

What do you have against trees Isabelle!!! That tree limit just feels kinda weird cause it could potentially discourage people from making the island they want! Tho its good to hear you stuck to your vision for your island it sounds beautiful

As stated, it’s all based on points. So you can have a very incomplete 5 star island. I like the idea of always having more to add so burnout doesn’t happen!

yeah I have a 5 star island currently but I still have 2 large "blank" sections of my island I have yet to finish. kinda sucks because right now I am exactly at my tree limit, and I know once I design the two sections I have left im gonna be way over! oh well, I got the golden watering can recipe so im happy and fine with relinquishing my 5 star rating!

also fun fact: I only have 3 bridges in my town :p (but I have 8 slopes!)

It's a really odd stipulation, isn't it?

To any human eye, my island looks much better than it did a few weeks ago when it was given 5 stars, yet it's stuck at 4 and is going to stay that way because of the arbitrary rule about trees.

I’m still stuck at 4 stars but I had an idea to do an outdoor café, so hopefully once I’m done I’ll reach 5 stars lol

Yupp... I got 5 stars way before I was done with anything.
I'm currently maintaining the 5 star rating to get more Lily of the Valley but there are still large chunks of my Island that don't have much going for them.
When I see people refer to the term "5 star" online though such as when people do walkthroughs of 5-star Islands on YouTube or Twitch it seems to apply to fully decorated Islands. In some of these cases, I think the people no longer have a 5-star rating in-game (such as in urban Islands with very few trees).
