I put my 3DS XL down and the console powered off. Then I turned it on again and the sound's working but the screen isn't!?

Here's a picture. I managed to find the brightness button and I can now see the screen. The screen has a red tint and the top screen is flipped. The touch screen works but both screens don't calibrate with what I open and the screen kinda overlaps

You should probably get it replaced or google to see if this has happened to anyone else and how they've dealt with it.

I have no idea what to Google. It first appeared to be the Black Screen of Death. I'm kinda angry because I've only had this one for 6 months.

If it was a new purchase you still have the warranty on it.
This looks bad enough for a return or repair.

There goes my hopes of fixing it :(

I've had it for 6 months and 3 days. If I return it can I get a new one? Or my money back? Would they swap it for a New 3DS? (I sound really shady now...)

You should be able to get a new system for it, but I'm not sure if they'll be willing to swap for a New 3DS. If you could get your money back though, it would be easy enough if you could conjure up the remaining money needed for a New 3DS.

The reason I said the above is because this is most likely a hardware fault, so you'd need to have it looked at by Nintendo or just return it to the shop. You could try doing a hard reset (turning it off completely for a minute, turning it back on again), but I'm not sure if that will help.

This happened to my brother. It was something to do with the wires overlapping or something. He oppened it up but he or his father-in-law couln't fix it so I just mailed hime a new one.... I don't think you can fix it ;^;

It makes me relieved sort of that this isn't some abnormal case haha. Yeah, I thought it was the BSOD at first so I checked online and I read the Black Screen of Death was to do with some wire on the WiFi cable. And shame :/ Thank you for advice!

I just turned it off (by completely you mean so it's not in sleep mode or?) so I'll check again in a few hours. To be fair it's been turning off and crashing since I got it so it's not really a surprise but it's only been occurring more recently.
Would I get all the money back or? Because if I don't I'm better off just trading in for another 3DS XL (I'm such a newbie at this but this will be free, right?)
Thank you again for all your help :)

Yup sorry I couldn't really help.... I'm so useless at this sort of thing I get a friend with a engineer's degree to help me put together those minecraft blocks let alone do this......

It depends on the place, at least here. Some will be willing to take it back in and give back at least a good sum of the money paid, others will force you to contact Nintendo. I'm not sure how well trading in would work, since I think a lot of places would want the system to be in good condition.

It's a bad situation, but I hope you can get it resolved easily and without too many costs.

I'm honestly poor. I'm not exactly 'poor' but due to personal issues money is a problem at the minute. Thank you for your advice and help.

On the bright side, at least I don't feel obligated to wake up every day to mail 10 letters and water all my flowers (which takes forever)
