My dad came across this old 3D chess board in the basement, along with all the pieces, so him and I played a game of it after I found the rules on the internet. White starts on the bottom level on one side (in its normal 2 rows), and black starts on the top level on the opposite side (in its normal 2 rows). You can move pieces on the same level like in a normal chess game, but you can also move them up and down levels. So, for example, if a rook is 2 levels below another piece, it can move 2 levels up to take that piece. Or, if a queen is 1 level above a piece and 1 square ahead and to the left, it can move down 1 level diagonally to take the piece. If you think chess is a good mind game, this totally outdoes it.
Anyways, my dad beat me pretty bad.
But it was tons of fun.
