I desperately want a new town.. one where i play the game more naturally, let anyone move in etc, and not be too focused on dreamies, and allow them to move regularly, one where i can experiment more, however i cannot bring myself to reset Azalea, i just cant do it, eventhough i could transfer all my bells and items easily etc, as my mum has her own 3DS
however i'm worried if i get a 2nd copy, ill stop playing my main one as much or just wont give the 2nd copy as much usage so it will be a waste of money
What would you do? and how did you cope with a 2nd copy if you got one ^^

I got a second copy with the intent to create a beautiful new town etc etc...and it turned out being a waste of money. But I mean, it's only $30-$35, so it wasn't a big deal to me. It depends on your situation. If you've got a job, meh. If you're still a kid and using allowance or something, then it's a big deal and I'd make sure you REALLY, REALLY want it.

I have 3 towns. xD; Magnolia is my first, my main town. Fiore is my second, my permanent TTing town. Edolas is my last, the town I haven't fallen in love with yet and plan to reset (and maybe keep as a resetting town).

My advice to you is don't worry too much about spending equal amounts of time playing each game. Play them for the reason you intended the town for. One for the constant permanence and one to revel in the changes. If you can get what you want out of both towns, then both of them are serving their purpose.

I find that I tend to go back and forth on how much time I spend playing each town, depending on circumstances. I'll be focussed on making bells in Magnolia. And then I'll get into TTing to cycle through villagers and grow hybrids in Fiore. And then turnips jumped to 453 in Edolas and so I switched and spent a ton of time there. Maybe I'll get into catalogging next and end up working in Magnolia again for weeks before something in another town holds my attention. So even though it feels like I might be ignoring my other towns while I'm playing in one, I'll always go back to the others because they have something about them that I can't get in another town.

Starting a new town, especially, takes a loooot of time and energy, so don't worry if you start a new town and then neglect the older town for a week or two. It happens. It happened to me with both Fiore and Edolas. After a while, it stabilizes as a new town and you'll be able to focus on other things in other towns.

Hope this was maybe helpful insight. (: Having a 2nd copy is a huge amount of fun and gives you so many options with what you can do, I really recommend it for anyone within their means.

If you plan on using that as a help for your main, by all means do it. For example:
-if you don't want to TT on your main but still want the features TTing gets you
-if you want a way to grow hybrids
-you can cycle villagers on that copy so you may end up with a dreamie that you cycle to your main
Just a few!

I'm really interested in this as well. I have some extra money for a new game, but I'm already sinking enough time into my main town that I'm afraid that having a new one will effectively wipe out what little free time I have :P

But mostly I'm really tempted about having more freedom of choice. With a second village, you'd get to exercise more options, different what-if scenarios for your village...

@Xanarcah, Is it easy juggling different towns? Did you find that it took more effort and time than it was worth, or did it just feel natural to play more than one town at once? Thanks for any reply/response, your post was really great.

I've had 2 games/towns since June 9th. In the beginning I would spend several hours a day playing each of them. I now play for 30 minutes to an hour in each town everyday (more if I'm trying to catch a darn stringfish for a villager). I consider both of the towns as my main town(s). I do like having 2 games/2 3ds, so if I need to get a petition signed, I can just start-up my other town and open the gate. I also like that when a villager moves out of one town they might show up in the other town.
I had 2 WW towns also that I played everyday (until June 9th last year) so I guess I just got use to playing 2 towns at the same time.
I don't regret having 2 towns, I love them both.
I say go for it.

I'm thinking about getting another copy as well, although I'm not sure if I should because there's so many other games coming out soon.
I really want a second copy just to have as a second town much like my first. I want to be able to have 2 towns full of cuteness and be able to decorate them in different ways. I could even cycle a bit and help people get their 'dreamies' before I settle down.

I feel that there'd be so much I could do with a second town that I can't do on my first.

Edit: I could also TT to get the Chinese Zodiac set without having to pay the obscene prices on here.

I just got myself a 2DS and another copy of ACNL today. My main incentive to get another was that on my first game, I TT'd a little too far and voided Baabara :( At least with 2 copies of the game I have one I can mess around on without ruining my town and losing villagers I'd become attached to, maybe I can even use this as a means of getting my dreamies quicker!

When I actually had a second town, I didn't find it time consuming at all. Really, I kept one town "pristine". It was full of my dreamies, all the trees were where I wanted it to be, etc. I never tt'd in that town.

I really used the second town to "break loose", as it were. :) I time traveled, I cycled for villagers. When I wanted to trade with someone I traded using that town - since it was a spare town, if they came and wrecked it, or if there was a surprise move-in villager, it didn't upset me too much. The closet served as additional storage space. I really liked it!

If you have the spare cash, totally worth it. It basically protects your real town.

You said " i'm worried if i get a 2nd copy, ill stop playing my main one" and that is what happened to me. If you don't let that happen you'll be fine. But two towns, unless you totally don't mind what it looks like, can be a blessing or a curse.

I can't speak for everyone else, but it's easy enough to play between towns for me. I have 1 digital (my main) and two cartridges (the TTing towns), so I have 2 towns with me at any given time, no matter where I am.

It feels natural to play them all, probably because all my towns are Fairy Tail themed, so what I do as the mayor kind of intertwines in my mind, as opposed to feeling like I'm playing two completely unrelated towns. In Magnolia, I try and cultivate my town and "guild". In Fiore, I play as Ultear, the wizard who knows Arc of Time magic and does uses it however she needs to in order to achieve her goals. In Edolas, I (am planning to play) as Jellal, the prince who returned to Edolas and has to rebuild the world when it was catastrophically, uh, reset. [Probably none of this makes sense unless you read/watch Fairy Tail...]

Like a lot of other people who posted about having two towns, my main is my "pristine" town. Paths and bushes laid out, villagers specifically chosen and placed, no TTing (except for right now, I'm cycling for Julian back...), etc. My second town I got specifically to TT in. I have new villagers every week instead of the same permanent cast, I have an ENORMOUS empty field that I can sprint around in, and no paths or gardens or anything. I do most of my buying and selling out of this town, because there's very little anyone running amock can harm. If I were to start doing a lot of buying/selling in my main town, I'd get all nervous or on edge any time someone came over.

Also, it's REALLY handy to stumble upon a high turnip spike in one town and then buy/sell between your two towns~

Just for reference, I'm out of school, not living with my parents, and have a full time job that keeps me occupied from when I wake up (6:30) until I get home (about 5:30PM). 6PM-10pm-ish is the time I have free to play AC, but I also have to do things like laundry and dishes and whatnot in this time. I usually have 1 or 2 days off every week. Hopefully this gives people an idea of how much time I can/can't spend playing.

/I talk too much...

I'm considering doing it as well. I would start up a new town with, for example, different native fruit. It could be interesting.

I would also use a different map.

If you want to for cycling or time traveling reasons, I say go for it! But if you want another full-fledged town, that's something to think about! I was thinking of getting a second copy, because I want to cycle and give people dreamies, but I really don't think I have enough time. I really want to but eh, i don't know ;~;

I got a 2nd town I just used originally for finding townies I liked enough to move into my main. Eventually I started developing it like with my original, and it's about filled with townies I love there too! I do play more "naturally" in that one still, it's nice being able to enjoy different styles of game play. Also I have my second on different time zone, so I can play it on a night when my main townies are starting to go sleep.

I have considered getting a second game to make an all squirrel town, but I think I'd just get sick of all the villagers being the same animal! So, I think I'm just going to stick with one game, as I really do love my town! :)
