2DS and the new update, resetting after adding HHD

So like the title, I have a 2DS so I was wondering will an NFC reader work like it does with Happy Home Designer but for the new New Leaf update? I don't have a NFC reader but I was thinking on buying one if it does so I do not know much about them.
I also downloaded the update and did the stuff to include Happy Home Designer infomation, but I was wandering if I restart my town will all that disappear? Lastly, I have a cartridge and a download on the same 2DS does the update and HHD add ons transfer to both? Sorry about the questions, its been awhile since I been on the forum and I hope this is alright to ask.

the nfc reader should work. It basically just adds amiibo reading functionality to older 3DS consoles so it shouldn't matter. If you restart your town the updates should be there because it's just an addition to the normal game now. You would still need to expand until you have the secret storage (need a 2nd floor at least I believe) before you can reactivate the Happy Home Designer interior design functionality I think? The update applies to both the digital and physical games. I updated my game and it automatically loaded it for my cartridge and digital copies.

The NFC Reader does work with the new Update. Not sure about the rest however.
