I unlocked terraforming last week but didn’t start using it until recently and man…. has it been an experience.. I keep doing and undoing the same 1x1 spot over and over again because I don’t move my character far enough and it get tiresome and honestly a bit boring.

I really wish this action would toggle in between two different buttons, button “a” to build and button “b” to undo/destroy. Like if I were to press “a” in front of a cliff or river it wouldn’t destroy it, it would prompt us with a “there’s already a cliff/rive there” that way we wouldn't be stuck on the same spot for ages... (maybe this is just my problem and I'm terrible with the controls lol)

What do y’all think about that idea? What other ideas do you have to make terraforming a bit easier but still a bit challenging?

At some point or another I just started putting different coloured paths to count tiles because it's impossible to tell how far you've walked, or how large some buildings are. A grid would honestly be fantastic, as well as an undo button cause I'm terrible at terraforming.

Yeah, that would be amazing. I really don't like the terraforming controls much, takes a lot of time to get used to and even then I still mess up.

A grid would honestly be fantastic
I second this, too. Having an option to actually see the tiles whilst landscaping would be so unbelievably helpful.

I'd also like the ability to place path over more than one tile at a time. Like it'd be great if I could cover a 2x2 area with relative ease, it's make building paths so much quicker.

I did that but with flowers 😂 I think your method of laying tiles would've been WAY more convenient!
yesss that was a huge issue i had with terraforming!! i thought itd be nice if there was some form of grid to follow
Yes! a grid that would overlay over the town when in "building" mode!

I honestly thought it was going to be like the design mode in your house and was so disappointed. Like I thought it was gonna be easier to place paths like all in one go at least like four squares at a time not doing everything one by one or At least have a grid

My guess as to why this isn't a thing could be because of the whole "rounding edges" option we have, but I'm not too sure

No, it is because eveything in this game is designed like it is still 1999. There is so much missing that is present in every other game out there.

That Quality of Life Update Fake Nintendo Direct video lists most of the problems in this game.

Good point! Though I suppose I could still switch back to 1x1 mode and round off corners individually. I guess my main issue with paths is how slow it feels haha, especially if you're making them 2 wide!

Speaking of paths though, I do see a lot of people still using custom designs as pathing...it'd be pretty neat if we could place them down the same way we place paths, saves going into the design app all the time. Like maybe there's a special 'design tile' that we can use a custom design on...

Man, it's been sooooo long since I've played games. The only reason I got the switch was because I wanted pokémon SWSH lol and even then I enjoyed it a lot because the last game I played was pkmn Diamond so my expectations weren't high. I guess it's the same for this game, I just really wish two different buttons controlled landscaping 😭

I'll check out the video later! Thx!

Yes Yes and yes lol there are so many ways this could be improved upon making more user friendly while keeping it challenging!

Yeah, terraforming tools have real nasty snapping issues. Sorry, you didn't turn left enough! *whips back to the right and undos cliff*

just wish terraforming as a whole was easier... It's sooooo slow, and it's absolutely awful making something just to hate it after, and having to take all that time to undo it :(
I wish there was at least some sort of planning function for it, maybe like a blueprint app or something. I just hate going into terraforming blindly or unsure if I can execute an idea I have

When destroying large areas via terraforming I always alternate where I destroy.
So, if I have this grid of cliff

I will alternate the row I work on to avoid destroying or building areas I was not trying to.
So it would be something like this

That way I do not end up "rounding" off any edges and it reduces the amount of time it takes to destroy large areas. (one hit instead of 2 per block.)

I would love for them to make a grid like option similar to the grid decorating option in the homes. Or if holding down the button and pressing to the side will automatically destroy or build as you go. There was a really cool fake direct someone made (no idea where I saw it) that had a ton of good ideas c:

There is a website you can use called "Happy Island Designer" by eugeneration, it's not the best but definitely can help quite a bit. Specially for planning out the foundation. I imagine there's others out there, it's just a matter of searching for them

That's what I try to do! But if I do happen to round-over an edge I'll go to the square next to it, destroy that one and the edge comes off too! It makes it feel like you're destroying way more area!
Nice! I had kinda imagined something like that, kinda like "locking in" the function. Unfortunately if people have drift problems I can't see that turning out well .-.
